FS: ThinkPad i1210

#1 Post by AlphaKilo470 » Sat Aug 12, 2006 1:22 pm

As my normal practice goes, I'm posting here a few days before eBay. I have a 500mhz ThinkPad i1210 that I'm looking to sell. This laptop features:

500mhz Intel Mobile Celeron (128kb full speed L2, 100mhz FSB)
32mb RAM
12.1" SVGA HPA LCD
Two USB 1.1 Ports
6gb hard drive with Windows 98SE
Windows 98SE COA on bottom
24x internal CD-ROM
NiMH battery (holds charge for up to half hour; glorified UPS)

The 56k modem seems to be having domestic problems and the bottom case has some cracks on the underside though the unit still feels solid and intact. The keyboard has normal smoothing of the keys on it.

If anyone is interested in this computer, give me an offer and we'll work from there. Pictures will be availible shortly.

I'm interested, just doing some research on the model before I go any further. I don't have time right now to look, but if you can answer:

1) What's an HPA LCD, and how about dead pixels, white spots, etc?
2) Is it 2.5MB VRAM or 8?
3) How does its footprint compare to an x20, or even a 570? I imagine similar to the x, smaller than the 570?

HPA stands for High Performance Addressing and was meant to address the refresh rate and ghosting issues of previous generation passive matrix displays. This screen has no white spots but as with all passive matrix screens, there is some fading around the sides. The images displayed on the screen are still visible and while your eyes may need to adjust if you are used to TFT screens, the display is still perfectly usable. In fact, if it adds any confidence, the i1210 is what I normally use when I'm waiting for my T21's battery to charge.

This laptop has 2.5mb VRAM paired with a Silicon Motion Lynx chipset. I've been able to play most DivX, Ogg Vorbis and MPEG video files without flaw but when tested with a few of my Matroska video files, I experienced some real lag.

The footprint is just marginally more than a 600E and about the same as my T21.

How much would something like this be worth?
IMO usb ports can make anything useful. Without usb ports... O_O I dunno what I would use...

Typically I would just search ebay but your stuff seems rather unique as they usually aren't ebay searchable. Like that AMS TravelEx or this one, only AC adapters exist for it. I almost fear searching for drivers!
This isn't as bad though. Im pretty new to the laptop scene, much less the IBM scene but I think this is the first i series IBM I have seen. Pictures would be amusing!

More of a curosity though because im going to have an interesting experience with that 266mhz computer.

:( man this better be more than $50 though otherwise I would jump on it too.

The AMS laptop shipped out the next day (since your payment was after 3pm) so you should have it either Monday or Tuesday if you don't have it now. The first thing you'll have to do is get a hard drive because I couldn't even install an OS on it other than DOS prompt.

For those interested, I have uploaded a few pictures. Though the quality is pretty low, they show what the computer looks like and one shows the crack I mentioned in the initial post.

Well, earlier today, the power jack decided to give up on it's last leg so now the computer only runs on battery. If you can relace the power jeck, the computer will be fully functional again.

Without the hard drive I'll let this go for $65. With hard drive I'll go for $75. Item goes onto eBay tomorow.
