How much is my T42p worth?

#1 Post by anz2007 » Fri Aug 18, 2006 1:23 am

Hey everyone,

I have a T42p that's about 20 months old. I was wondering how much you think I should look to sell it for today. It's a T42p 2373-KTU with an added HDD caddy and additional 80 gig 5400RPM hard drive, and it has thinkpad protection accidental damage warranty as well.

Specs:
P M 755 (2 GHZ)
1GB RAM
60GB 7200rpm HDD
14.1 SXGA+(1400x1050) TFT LCD
128MB ATI FireGL T2
CD-RW/DVD-R Multi-Burner(slim)
IBM 802.11a/b/g wireless(MPCI)
Bluetooth/Modem(CDC)
9 cell Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro
HDD caddy, 80GIG toshiba HD

It's in excellent/perfect shape, and it had another year and 4 months of warranty AND thinkpad protection on it. How much do you think I could get for it?

I don't have an answer for you, but you might check on ebay to see what similar models are selling for.

The prices on machines with that configuration are between 1,399 USD and 1,599 USD.

Used machines are not equivalent to new machines. Much like cars.

I just sold (this week) a T41p with great spec.'s and over a year warranty for $850.

You include some nice extras, but you have to find the exact buyer that places value on those extras.

For $1400, your looking at a brand new T60 with argueably better spec.'s., example below;

Link.

I'd say you can fetch $1100 to $1200. The longer you wait, the less it's worth.

Good luck.

I bought a NEW T42p with 1GB or RAM and 128MB video for about 980 USD!

Laptop is stock, without any stickers, but all the hardware functions OK, except that it has the short fan and the GPU overheats

T42ps of that spec go for around £800 here in the UK.

I might not be the best to one to ask about this because I just got a smashing deal on a t42p with 2 extra almost brand new batteries a dual charger and recovery discs for 950 shipped. It also has about a year left of warranty as well. So considering all of that I would think you should be able to get 1100 maybe. Mine is also UXGA!

I think the 15'' 1600x1200 screens would be lovely, but they don't really help the portability. If you're moving about a lot the 1400x1050 is the perfect balance on a 14.1'' screen.
