256MB would be much better, but I can't afford one! If you have a low-density 256MB PC100 stick and are willing to sell it for $30 shipped, then I would be happy to buy it from you.

I have an IBM 256 mb pc 2100 cl2.5 2.5 v fru number 10k0031. It is in good working condition and was pulled out of a ibm thinkpad T30. WOuld this work for you. I could match your price for the ram shipped.
I don't know how to check for low density BTY

Thanks for offering these but unfortunately they wouldn't work on the T22. Actually, I just sold two 256MB PC2700 SODIMMs for 10 bucks each, and a 128MB PC2100 one for $5. It's really hard to sell them for more than that these days because the 512MB and 1GB sticks are getting so cheap. I could sell a 128MB PC2100 for $13 a year ago.

Keep in mind that the T21 can use 256MB PC133 Low Density ram as well. Mine is using two of them right now.

Thanks for letting me know, but I plan to sell this laptop as soon as I find memory for it, so I am just looking for the minimum amount of memory required for Win XP, which is 128MB. If I add more RAM than that, I would need to sell the computer for more money, making it harder to sell it on Craigslist.

Such bad timing. I sold two low-density PC100 256MB SODIMMs just half a year ago for $40 apiece.

How do you tell low density from others?

Low density 256mb sticks have 16 little black chips on the, 8 on each side. Regular or high density have 8 chips, 4 on each side.

So... if the one I have is high density it will not work in a T20?
I had it working in a T23 I used to have.
thanks

Not likely, since the T21 normallu uses PC100. The T23 has a 133FSB so it uses PC133....not to big of a deal for the high or low density.
Having said that...it wont hurt anything to try.

Oh... I am going to try!! Besides, I thought PC133 would work in a machine that calls for PC100 becayse it is backwards compatible?

It isn't always backwards compatible....especially in laptops. They are more finnicky than PCs.
