How much might this be worth?

Sorry that this isn't a technical question, but I thought I would seek advice from some knowledgeable folks. I've been reading this forum for over two years, ever since I purchased my first Thinkpad.

So, I just ordered myself a T60, and I am in the process of getting my T42 ready to sell. I was wondering if anyone might have a good idea of how much it might be worth. I see prices on Ebay ranging from $500-$800, so it's hard to tell. Anyways, here's my system:

P M 735, 1GB RAM, 80GB 5400rpm HDD, 14.1 SXGA+(1400x1050) TFT LCD, 64MB ATI Radeon 9600, CD-RW/DVD-R Multi-Burner, Intel 802.11b/g wireless(MPCI), Modem(CDC), 1Gb Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Secure Chip, 6 cell Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro

Still has warranty until 11/2007. No dead pixels, cracks, or anything like that.

Battery still holds 3 hrs charge. I still have all of the original packaging and owner's manual, too.

Thanks.

I would say around $700

You do have the extra RAM, large HD, multi-burner, expensive LCD and a year of warranty going for you. $700 up to $800 isn't out of the question, assuming the plastics look near new. At $700, it should sell in under an hour.

Congrats on the new one, good luck selling the old one. It shouldn't take long to sell.

$700 to $800 seems fair.

Good luck,

You folks are all a bit high for a T42 IMHO.

It's a very nice unit, but you can pick up similar systems on eBay for around $600.

$.02.

With all due respect, around $600, and I'll take it.

Maybe, upon occasion, while doing some serious hunting, you could snag one with those spec.'s, but certainly not typically.

We're talking DVD burner, year warranty, SXGA+, 1GB, 80GB!

Even T40's with similar spec.'s command more than $600.

Check the completed auctions on eBay.

It's a very nice unit, and I hope the seller gets a very good price for it.

I find it odd that just 1.5 years ago i paid a nice sum for may t42 in the sig (w/ 3yr TPP) and its worth 600 now. So after its out of warranty. It'll cost more to replace the motherboard when (not if) it goes bad.

The price you pay for tech i suppose.

cheers

Perhaps the question needs to be qualified;

What is the correct price if I want it to sell...

...instantly? $600

...within the day? $700

...at auction, with a well written description and good pictures, within a week? $800

In any event, as with cars, depreciation on new equipment is heavy. With laptops, comparing what you have to what you could buy today at least adds reason to the rhyme. New, basic T60's are occasionally on sale for under $1,000.
