looking for Chinese thinkpads

#1 Post by bfgun » Sun Oct 15, 2006 1:29 am

Tricky question - i have a friend who will be going back to China, and he's looking for a thinkpad with the chinese language on it. While i've never seen one, i would assume it would have a simplified chinese keyboard and a chinese version of Win XP on it.

Can anyone point me or steer me in the right direction for purchasing something like this in the US?

Thanks!
Brian

In the US? I don't really know. Most resellers in the US have the US English layout and nearly the same localization of the preload to boot. You could look on eBay for one although I doubt you could easily find one.

You might be able to buy from the Chinese section of Lenovo's site. Worth a shot to check it out anyway. :)

She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Why not order a Simplified Chinese keyboard from Lenovo parts and just enable the Chinese input local and options in XP Regional controls?

My X41 has a Korean keyboard that cost me all of $38 through Lenovo USA, it was very easy to get.

You can't change the language, but you can enable functionality. What will result is some dialogs in English and others in English, with the full ability to input and handle text in both languages.

It is easy. My first Thinkpads T43 BH-6 is a english version of XP Home. when i buy it, the seller install a software ( i can't remember exactly what the softare is, but if necessary, i can ask him again). and now it is simple Chinese version of XP, also includes Chinese input. I am a Chinese, i can use it without any difficulty.
