Just wanted to get a feeling of the price for my system:
X32 in perfect condition (nub still bright red) with good battery and charger
2672 -KBU
Original description: P M 755(2GHz), 512MB RAM (Upgraded to 1.5gb), 60GB 5400rpm HD, 12.1in 1024x768 LCD, 16MB ATI Radeon, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Bluetooth/Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, Secure chip, IEEE 1394, 6c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro
warranty until 10/17/08
No ultrabase

just wanted to hear what the experts have to say

Really $800? That low? Just yesterday, an x32 1.6/1gb/40gb without bluetooth or warranty went for $891 on ebay...sure it had a dvd-rw ultrabase, but it I really had to I could put it together for low cost. Greatly appreciate the input though.

I have always had bias against these relatively heavy "ultraportables" (the X32 is almost 1 full pound heavier than the X40), which could have caused me to underestimate the worth of your X32. Let's see what others think.

Of course, but the main reason for using an ultraportable notebook is because it's light, and IMO anything above 3 pounds should no longer be considered ultraportable. If one wants an ultraportable with 7200rpm, get an X60s with a slim battery.

$800US is a very fair price for X32.

Currently there is a Thinkpad X31 on Seattle Craigslist for $500.

xBay price is usually higher but don't forget the fee and probably bid hijack by interenational bidder.

Last year, several forum members bought a bunch of near-mint X31's (with ultrabase, I thinK) from Retrobox for around $400 each.

Wow, I'm definitely not selling LOL. And I mention the nub because it's the original nub..just telling you how much use it has...

High 800's is pretty much the upper limit of what you can get. Even though your configuration has upgraded RAM. I'm thinking more likely (at least on this forum) $750 - $850 is your range.

I think some market constraints you'll find are that if someone's in the market for an x3x, they'll also have their eyes on the T4x's. (ex. T42s are highly prized around here, and they're coming down in prices to $600 - $900 depending on the config., and I can confirm that x31's are fetching on average $500 on the West Coast).

I agree with PianoWizard in that the x3x series is a touch heavy to be considered an ultraportable. I lug my x31 around all the time, but am moving onto the x41t as my favored travel companion.

If you were hoping to get $900 and above, you might consider doing what you said -- and get an x3 media slice on the cheap, to make the entire package a little more compelling to someone on Craigslist or Ebay. Forum members here are a tougher crowd to please

Very nice lappy, i like it much more than the x40. I'd still price it around 650 tho. Just my .02.

Mostly cuz the laptop and desktop market always sinks like mad around the release of a new OS. People arent buying puters as they are waiting until Vista is released so they dont have to do an OS upgrade in the next 6 months.

It's just a name ... "ultraportable" ... "subnotebook" ... just call it an X32. Certainly it's a bit heavier than an X40/X41, but it's still far lighter than a T series ThinkPad, let alone something like an Inspiron. I happily carry my X31 through dozens and dozens of airports, work on it in coach class, and use it everywhere from a safari to a beach to a racetrack. It is most definitely highly portable -- and with 1.3 GB and 7200 RPM, it performs very well, too.

Now, an X60 is certainly preferable in most aspects (except possibly the keyboard) to an X32. But it's generally not in the same price range, so it's really a bit of an apples-and-oranges comparison ...

Hey the only other X32 up until today was 1.8/512/40 with no bluetooth or warranty for 1095 + ship. The newest contender has a 3 yr warranty & factory sealed with ultrabase but has 40gb no bluetooth @ 1049 +40 ship. So compared to them I'm not soo bad LOL. I have 5 watchers and 5 days to go so, I can dream can't I?

As for Retrobox, it is quite an anomaly to me that they did so well. Everytime I go, I see no real deals, and some don't even tell you model numbers.

I took a quick look at your eBay description and one thing that could get you into trouble is the statement "This laptop is only 3lbs" when it's really 3.6 lbs, which could be rounded off to 4 lbs but certainly not 3lbs. It's important to keep everything accurate in your ad, or else you could end up getting a negative feedback, or the buyer wants to get a partial refund or even return the laptop.

True, but I've seen alot worse and have been subjected to alot worse. One auction I was looking at had complete wrong specs in the title. I emailed him, didn't even acknowledge me. I do appreciate the heads up though. Thanks

I think you should take a shot at a Craigslist listing as well. If you word your ad correctly, you might get a bite at your desired price. (FYI - I'm not lobbying for Craigslist, but I've had a successful string of local transactions that have made me quite satisfied).

I took a quick look at NYC for sale thinkpads, and no one has an x32 up...so you'd be your own competitor!

Typically, the holidays instill a vicious lowballer mentality as Black Friday rolls around. Be careful of how long you hang at the top end of the pricing... you might see your lappy's value plummet in the bat of an eye

Thanks for the tip! And yes, I've seen some ridiculous ups and downs for laptop prices these last 6 mths.

From my experience with Craigslist, it's very hard to sell things that are over around $400. I guess one reason is that people don't feel comfortable carrying so much cash to meet a total stranger.

I've found that to also be true. However I have sold laptops in the range of $600 on craigslist and have bought a laptop around $900 too (big mistake, guy lied about everything).

I did that once too (my Dell Inspiron 700m for $600), but it took a long time to get that sold.

I see this all the time here, people ask what others think it is worth and spend every other post trying to argue why it is worth way more. Bottom line is don't ask here if you already have a thought in your head about what your machine is worth to you. Just post the FS price and then head to ebay after a couple/three weeks.

I got my feelings hurt about a t42 I sold a while back but i'm over it now .

True though on knowing what you think something is worth, then asking for reassurance...only to find doubt. I've only sold one item on craigslist for $550, and it went quickly.

I would say my response was surprise at the guestimate, I don't think anyone is really arguing here. I don't think you should be so cynical as to say not to bother asking...what is the forum for if not for questions and intelligent discussions? The honest truth is I got the X32 as a trade for a PSP. As long as I make more than $200, I am making money not losing it. When he gave me the system I was so impressed about how beautifully taken care of it was. The story is actually funny.. I found a P4 PC in the trash, built it up, sold it, bought a DS lite (& extras), traded it for a PSP (& extras), then traded for the X32. So by that vein, I got the X32 almost for free. Unfortunately, where I live, people misuse my items when I'm not here so I'd rather see it sold in perfect condition than ruined here.

rosannafe, that's impressive! It would seem a shame for you to stop there and trade it out for cash. In the same vein as the guy who traded up from a Red Paper Clip to a house (http://oneredpaperclip.blogspot.com/), you should set your sights towards one of Big Blue's Super computers, and be all the envy of this forum.

You certainly got the better end of the deal on the PSP - X32 deal
