NOTE: Be wary of many units on ebay which claim to have 3 year warranty but are really six months IBM and 3 years "Mack" which are next to useless. Want to have the full time with IBM so you get top service and support (e.g. 800-IBM-SERV). Also, no need to worry about getting a unit with stuck/dead pixels.

In regards to that 'pep' you're talking about -- what's your honest opinion about the x60s for doing light development work (sluggish, not quite there, etc)?

I need a travel box to do some LAMP stack work (PHP) and not getting nearly enough oomph out of my x41Tablet. Seriously thinking of parting ways and moving onto an x60 (s).

Also, did you have a price you were looking for? Or are you taking open offers?

I used to own X41 Tablet (see signature) and unit is considerably faster CPU-wise and certainly disk wise using the 2.5" 5400 disk instead of the 1.8" 4200. I'm certain you can find benchmarks on the web.

There are units sold on ebay, but they mostly only have 6 month IBM warranty and 3 years useless Mack warranty (google on web about Mack). The warranty is a lot of the value you pay for IBM.

I'll take about $600 off the best price at Euclid and include shipping/insurance. So, I think $1350 is fair for a laptop with 2.5 years left of warranty. That is roughly 30% off.

And that is for a unit with no dead/stuck pixels and not having to worry about returning such a unit to Euclid.

Pretty good price on a X60S.

about the mack warranty, I have no experience with it. But I guess it is pretty much useless. I heard some bad news about their warranty on cameras. They would give you all sorts of headaches to prevent you from sending your unit in for service (like months to repair it).

By any chance, you don't plan to travel to Europe any time soon?
Because I would be most interested if I did not have to pay French VAT and custom taxes

Also, if it was bought 6 months ago, I guess it doesn't qualify for the Vista Upgrade Program?

The X60s will still be faster than your X31, thanks to the dual cores (memory and disk differences notwithstanding). And the disk alone will make it much faster than the X41t.

But it depends on what kind of development. Visual Studio with C++ works great with an X31, even.

Well, if it's still anything like the experience a friend of mine had a few years back it kinda goes like this...

...1st he called them long-distance to claim a problem. Then if they felt that it was a repairable issue and covered by their warranty they instructed him on how to pack the laptop for shipping to them (he had to pay for the container, the shipping and the insurance/documentation). He was also told to include in the box an amount to cover the return shipping of the repaired laptop. About 6-7 weeks later he received the repaired laptop.

If the repair is a user replaceable part he had to pay for the part (and shipping) ahead of time, then he got paid back a few weeks after sending back the defective part at his cost (and, he was told, that's IF the part was really defective!).

I apologise if the proceedure has changed for the better over the past few years but that is the process my friend had to endure over the life of his MACK warranty. If someone has a more recent example of MACK warranty service I'd like to know too. Maybe things are better now.
