RECOVERY CD...

Hi everyone,

After searching long and hard for a new notebook I ordered a T60p, just couldn't go past how fantastic the ol T41p has been, so on that basis thought I'd better sign up here also .

Ok on to my question, I will be handing down the trusty old T41p to the "good woman", and would like to do a factory restore for her, I have the recovery cd set (5 disks) however my disk 1 is knackered and unrecoverable. Is someone able to link a disk image for me to download? Unfortunately IBM here in aus are pretty useless and getting a copy off them will be next to impossible in my past experience.

If this sort of thing is not legal to do in US, please disrregard my request

Benni, it is possible for someone to upload the file to an ftp server.
You could also post in the marketplace for a set of recovery CD's for that model.

I am in Melbourne, and have a t41p. I just had my hard disk reset to factory by IBM Australia last fortnight, and the recovery partition restores the system to WinXP SP2. This is probably newer than any recovery disk you may have made earlier.

However, I have not been able to find the option to create the Recovery disks.

What I can give you is a DVD with the backup of the recovery partition made with FWBACKUP. If you boot off the DVD, you should be able to run FWRESTORE, and recreate to this latest recovery partition.

Let me know if you want me to create a DVD for you.

Isn't the first cd just a rescue and recovery boot cd?
My recovery sets say 1 of 1,then 1 of 7, 2 of 7, 3 of 7, etc. I believe you can make as many of 1 of 1 as you want it is the 1 of 7, etc that you can only make 1 set of.
I think it is under Access IBM, Create boot media.

Hi Benni,

Before anything else, you only need the recovery discs if you wiped out your predesktop area. If it is intact, you should be able to restore your system by booting to the predesktop after powerup by pressing the Access IBM button.

Either way, machine requests a password that I don't recall setting and none of my passwords satisfies.

I am very concerned that the RR backup I have made will be useless when the hard drive fails.

Advice would be very much appreciated.

That's the supervisor password. Did you buy the machine second hand?

Did you burn your copy of R & R disks? Even if there is a supervisor password in your computer, running the recovery disks on your new HDD will not be hindered by that password as everything will be reset back to the state when the thinkpad first came out from the factory.

Have you tried the recovery disks? If you did not set the supervisor password, then did you set a password for your windows login page? If yes, then maybe you have accidently clicked the button to set the same password for your supervisor password. If you have never set any passwords for any of these, then it is strange to have something like this. But in most cases, users tend to accidently set the passwords without knowing it.

Can I uninstall rescue and recovery 2.0 and reinstall it? for the moment I have no need of the backups that I would lose. What else would I lose?

uninstalled RnR, rebooted, then reinstalled. Same need for password on boot from disk or from blue button.
