Hi: I have a T30 (2366-44U). I bought the recovery disks from IBM, which have XP Pro. However, I prefer Windows 2000. Does anyone have the IBM restore / recover disks that have Windows 2000? Does anyone know where I can get them? Does anyone want to trade or sell?
Thanks to the nice people who responded with advice about how to get a fresh copy of Windows 2000 to work completely! I have given up, however, and decided to go with the original recover disks. I have spent a week of my life trying to get my system onto the internet with my copy of Windows (SP4), and have failed utterly.
Last thing. The restore disks I have (with Windows XP) work perfectly, and Windows XP works fine, of course. Question: Am I being silly in my love for Windows 2000? Should I just be satisfied with XP? Any feedback?

Go for XP/SP2 !
Like you, I have been a great fan of W2K.
However, I've managed to upgrade even my ancient desktop from 128MB with Win/ME to 896MB with XP/SP2. (The T41 was always XP, later upgraded to SP2)
.Everything works fine, and I've found that facilities like the XP System Restore Points are really useful in helping you recover from system disasters, however they were caused.
By now XP/SP2 is very stable, and providing you get all the latest bios and drivers etc (while avoiding the PC doctor 5 problem documented elsewhere) you should have no trouble upgrading to the XP/SP2.
Good luck... and if you do encounter problems, this is a VERY helpful forum in which they can probably be resolved.

I don't think that you are being silly, there are several members here that prefer W2K over XP. I was stuck on 98SE, until I made the jump to XPPro.tedjackson wrote:Last thing. The restore disks I have (with Windows XP) work perfectly, and Windows XP works fine, of course.

You can always set XP to run in classic mode, and you can turn off all of the "eye candy" and make it run smoother and quicker.
