I've got a T43 coming that has shipped and have decided to sell my seldom used T42, 2379-DXU with 15" SXGA+ Screen.

Laptop was purchased in March of 2005 with a 3 year Lenovo warranty, with 15 months now remaining. I have an X32 which has gotten 93% of my laptop use; months literally have elapsed in between uses of my T42, which was used almost exclusively for short periods in my home. The laptop is in "mint" condition and probably has seen less than 1000 hours of use in its life.

I've decided to sell it because the 15" form factor is simply too big for me; I'd hoped to take it on photography related trips but given its size and weight it always stayed home and the X32 was what accompanied me

Usage has been almost exclusively on AC and the battery still retains the great majority of its charge capacity.

Original description: P M 735, 512MB RAM, 60GB 7200rpm HDD, 15" SXGA+(1400x1050)TFT LCD, 64MB ATI Radeon 9600, 24x24x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD, Intel 802.11b/g wireless(MPCI), Modem(CDC), 1Gb Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Secure Chip, 6 cell Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro.

The RAM has been upgraded to 1.0gb with another IBM PC2700 512mb DDR RAM stick.

I have the original box and most original materials, and of course the power brick.

The Operating System is completely up to date. I've deleted most of the IBM/Lenovo proprietary bloatware, although anyone who wanted it could easily download and install it later. My intention is to uninstall all of my own software, run a registry cleaner (CCleaner), then do a PerfectDisk defrag. I will need to remove PerfectDisk afterwards due to licensing considerations.

Price is $725 plus $25 UPS ground insured shipping within the continental USA. If this doesn't sell here quickly I will ebay it.

My ebay ID for reference is: Lameloise

I'm not going to take any fuzzy pictures of the laptop. It is in like new condition and looks like any other 15" T42s you could see on many ebay listings.

Thank you for your consideration!

I've had some expression of interest in this system, plus am discussing it with some local friends.

If it has not sold by Sunday afternoon (1/7/2006), I'm going to ebay it so if you read this thread after that point, please regard it as being no longer available.

A similar system with less RAM sold on ebay this week for $825, so I'm confident I can get it sold fairly easily either here or elsewhere.

I must say I find that quite surprising.

EDIT: I should clarify what I was trying to say. It meant: "I have not been following the prices of T42's on eBay lately and didn't know they are still selling so well."

The custom here is to edit your initial post and amend the subject line with something like "SOLD" or "DELETE" so that one of the mods can lock the thread.

(1) Thanks so much for helping me to sell this laptop! I'll have to repay the favor the next time you list something here!

(2) Be surprised:

(3) I don't know why you find this surprising. I bought the laptop at a discount in March 2005 for $1800+, then added RAM to it. It has been barely used. Unlike the majority of other Thinkpads purported to be in good condition on ebay, this one has a real Lenovo Easyserv warranty and not one of those next to worthless Mack Warranties.

This computer has more power than the overwhelming majority of users would need. It has an amazingly good screen.

While I'm not quite sure what pianowizard's motive was in making that ill-considered comment in the middle of your FS ad, take the high road here.

Pianowizard is one of my favorite posters here so I don't know either.

In any event, it is true that a lot of these used T42s sell in the $600 range, however they tend to be in uncertain condition, have had unknown or multiple owners, have expired or nearly expired warranties, and lower resolution and smaller screens.

Hey Ken, I am sorry if my curt comment offended you or hurt your chance of selling this T42. I should have explained a little more. I was not suggesting that I didn't believe you or T42's aren't worth much. It's just that in the last few months people have been having difficulty selling T43's on this forum in the $700 range (I remember someone had to lower his T43 to $650 to get it sold), so I was assuming that prices were dropping really fast and T42's should be worth less than $700 now. Also, after getting my X60s last month, I have stopped browsing eBay for laptops, so I had no idea what the current prices of T42's are.

In other words, what I should have written was, "I have not been following the prices of T42's on eBay lately and didn't know they are still selling so well." My apologies.

No problem and sorry if I overreacted

The forum member who was interested in the T42 is probably not going to buy it.

I am planning to put this on ebay by this evening. If anyone wants to make me an offer before I get the laptop listed on ebay, feel free to PM me. I'm not going to check back on this thread so don't post anything on it and as in the subject, the thread can be locked.
