I thought about upgrading the OS but W98SE does everything I need to do with the old girl. If I go to a new OS, I'd need a larger hard drive and a faster CPU. W98SE does everything I need to do with this specific machine.

I've also got a T60p.

thanks,
Gene

That is the same reason I stick with Windows 98SE on my old 400 Mhz Thinkpad. XP and 2000 have way too much bloat. Windows 98SE even had more than I wanted until I trimmed it down. No offense intended to anyone who tries to stay as current as possible but sometimes there is no need to mess with what works.

But Microsoft stopped providing new security updates for Win98SE back in July 2006. I would not feel comfortable hooking up a Win98SE machine to the internet.

How about eBay? My understanding is that the OP's Thinkpad doesn't have a COA code for 98SE, so s/he would need to buy a CD with its own key. eBay has several that are under $50 shipped, for example this one and this one.

I'm emailing around EBay with the "parted out" 770Zs.

thanks for the suggestion.
