what is it in my post that would give you that idea?

I'm just giving my observations of what happens when a laptop doesn't sell here quickly; unless you enjoy the process of selling a laptop and responding to endless questions for indefinite periods of time (many months in some cases I've seen here) then it only makes sense to unload the item elsewhere and move on.

shes gone to ebay

it's almost like ebay is where all the slutty thinkpads go while we try to sell the classy ones here. wherever she ends up, I hope her new owner treats her with dignity.

The interesting thing about selling them here, is that it used to be that you could sell Thinkpads here for more than you could on eBay. Now since the value of laptops have dropped, as of the release of the duo-core cpus, buyers are more apprehensive in spending their money, because eBay was so much cheaper.

You will still find people on eBay that are willing to pay more than the market value of a laptop, because of their desolate location, or lack of information.

Consider it like real estate...it used to be a sellers market, but now because of the duo-cores, it has turned into a buyers market.

And for the record, this post has no bearing on the price or value the OP's Thinkpad...but rather just a clarification as to the ease, or lack thereof, of selling a Thinkpad here.

According to the pics you posted, that unit has had the serial number sticker removed. I would not buy it like that, and it should not be allowed to be sold here like that.

I don't see anything wrong selling without stickers, the serial number can be still obtained using system information.
I love thinkpads

Well, here is a question, then ... if I were to replace the base housing, which has the serial number label, should I not be able to sell my ThinkPad? You can't really move the serial number sticker (which is wearing off on my X31 anyway).

Serial numbers

#39 Post by scosgt1 » Mon Mar 05, 2007 4:34 pm

well here is the problem:
If the system goes down, there is no way to ascertain the serial number.
The serial number in the BIOS may not be the true serial of the unit (and we all know how to change that).
If IBM changes the base, they install a new serial number sticker (but maybe not a new COA).
And I have not even used the S word, but that is always a problem, in that some folks think that by removing the sticker they have hidden the true identity of the machine.

If IBM (Lenovo) replaces, yes, you will get a new sticker. However, if you are out of warranty and buy a base from eBay, you won't get one ...

His particular one is, yes. But you said one should not be allowed to sell a ThinkPad here without a serial number label. And for older machines the issues are there ... heck, even my X31's sticker is torn already.

Alright I dropped the price. Ebay is going to be taking a lot of fees, and I'd rather just sell it here and not deal with the hassle of ebay.

You have got a pm.

With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."

If you post a lappy with a good price in here it will sell, you just need to be patient. I think if you have a real nice machine it is worth letting it go to someone on the forums, unless of course you are strapped for cash.

Nice machine, the first X-series with USB 2.0, too.

Let us know if it's still available. Great price.

Someone here needs to grab this nice little machine!

The price is very fair and reasonable and shouldn't need any additional adjustment.

If I hadn't just purchased another 1.6GHz model off eBay that had been incorrectly listed as an X30, I'd grab this one myself.

I sent the guy pm yesterday around noon, hopefully we can close the deal.

I bet you didn't complain to the seller about this one! It's nice to have one fall in your favor once in a while. Nice work!

Well, it wasn't an absolute steal and it might indeed turn out to be a 1.4GHz model. But it came from a known seller who only deals in clean items and came with an Ultrabase, external DVD burner, external floppy and a case.

Should be here today, I'll let you all know what shape it's in.
