I have become one of you and I just bought another x31 for absolutely no reason. So one of them has to go unfortunately and I figure I should try selling it here before I put it up on ebay since it's your fault I have become a thinkpad addict.
I paid $475 for it back in June, and added a stick of ram. Ram is 2x256. Ibm recently replaced the palm rest piece so everything is in very good to excellent condition. It is under warranty until the end of May of this year. XP and other random stuff is installed but no COA (thats how I got it) so it's complaining upon startup about not being genuine. Everything works perfectly.
I am also including a matching vintage IBM optical usb notebook mouse! I'm looking for $365 incl shipping for North America only. I'll mark it as a gift for you Canadians out there.
all the best.

Still have it?
I was going to get a lower end laptop and a harddrive to take care of some stuff, but if I get this I can just skip converting things.
I'm definitely wanting this.

No, unfortunately I only have one. They can be found on ebay for around $15.

Very good deal. Someone please buy this before I do. My wife will kill me. I just sold one, and only have two X series TP's (X31 and X30) left in the house. Seriously, this a good buy for someone.

Mike, your wife won't kill you... come on... look at that sexy pic no 2... how can you keep your hands off of that

come on guys, I figured you would be all over this. I would much rather sell it to one of you than give more money to ebay. I will be putting her up on Sunday.

I think several people on this forum wanted to buy an X31 in the last few weeks. These people may not browse this site frequently and so they probably still haven't seen this ad. I suggest that you look up their WTB threads and contact them.

I definitely would since I'm in the market for an X series, but I live in Australia, which is a shame because it looks like a fabulous X31.

Will it not work in Australia? Because I certainly do not mind shipping it there.

Oh, okay - I'd seen you say "shipped in North America only", so assumed that you wouldn't ship away from the continent. PM therefore sent.

Sorry to repeat myself but I think you would sell this laptop in a couple of days and spend a lot less time if you just put it up on ebay (or Craigslist if you are in a big city and have good luck with that).
The format that I've found that works well for laptops on ebay is to sell it as a "buy it now" item with "Best Offer." Take the 7 day option as it costs no more and with this format you want as much time as they will give you without extra charges. Make the buy it now price a bit too high compared to recent sales of similar models. Price your shipping and insurance at a reasonable rate as intelligent buyers are familiar with the old ploy of underpricing the item and trying to make up on it by charging more for the shipping. Require immediate Paypal payment in order to close the sale.
Then sit back and let the offers come in. You can check out the buyers as the offers roll in; avoid selling to people with bad feedbacks, people who get into pissing matches with sellers on feedbacks, and people who leave bad feedbacks for sellers. All of the above will reduce the amount of aggravation you experience and will keep your own ebay feedback rating intact.
The above approach will more or less eliminate the potential for someone killing your auction through fraud, also. It can be some thief with a newly created ebay account based in "Nigeria" or other places where lots of ebay fraud originates, but if they don't actually pay for the item immediately through Paypal, the auction stays up and your sale continues. If you make it clear you will only ship to a Paypal verified address, you are covered for that sort of fraud also and you let Paypal take on a lot of the responsibility on the anti-fraud front. You might receive some faked paypal emails indicating you have been paid, but if the auction remains up and the transaction doesn't show up in your paypal account, just ignore them.
With this approach you will leave a little bit of money on the table, you will pay a little bit more in fees, and you will not get the absolute top dollar price you might get from a given foolish buyer who will overpay at the last instant. But, you avoid so many risks and so much hassle that the few dollars you may lose will be well worth the benefit.

Thanks Ken. I will do that on Sunday. Just figured I'd do people a favor and offer it here first.
Schwaz: it comes with just a mouse.

I found an X31 locally with Ultrabase on eBay that I just bought, so I'll have to withdraw my interest on this one. Good luck with whatever happens.

I have to admit I agree with Ken Fox on this. I tried to sell a very similar X31 here and despite some interest, no buyers. I got very close to my asking price in ebay in 7 days. My differences - 40gb drive, only one month warranty left, got $490 +$25 shipping. I had been asking $525 here, dropped to $500. I will still probably always offer any TP stuff here first, but for a limited time.

You guys make it sound as if something's wrong with the people on this forum. But it's just a matter of size; this forum doesn't have the thousands and thousands of customers Ebay has.

I certainly didn't say anything to imply there is something wrong with the people on this forum. I love this forum. I have always given the forum first shot at anything I am selling Thinkpad-wise. However, it makes sense to move it to ebay after a short time if unsuccessful. For the very reason you mention: more potential buyers. However, I would rather sell my stuff here if I can - 1) more trustworthy buyers here 2) you guys appreciate the items more 3) it goes to a "good home" and 4) I feel it's payback for the great stuff I've gotten here as well.
This X31 is a great machine at an excellent price and I hope someone here buys it! If not, ebay is a great alternative.
