NO MORE PAYMENTS ACCEPTED UNLESS I HAVE PM'ED YOU WITHIN THE LAST HALF HOUR AS OF 8:55 PM EST. ANYONE WHO HAS ALREADY SENT PAYMENT IS GUARANTEED A LAPTOP. ALL OTHERS ARE SUBJECT TO REFUND
Because of overwhelming demand (seriously, no joke) I only have 2 600es in stock and will not be able to ship more than what is left until Tuesday or Wednesday of next week (Spring Break, school is closed and I will not see the Manager until then). Rest assured that there still are PLENTY of ThinkPads and you are almost guaranteed one by sending in payment now (unless 12 of them are taken between now and then

).
Ok, so I have made a deal with my school's IT Manager. He has all these ThinkPad 600es just sitting in a drawer that are apparently donations from a Bank of America. All I have to do is get them out the door for him. The school gets something like 80% of the profit due to me lowering the price threshold.
The Win98SE I install is from a box he has that stores images from all sorts of machines in the school's possession. These 600e's all happen to use the same image. I can supply the original image on a CD if necessary (He uses Acronis).
Code: Select all
Operating Systems (Choose One)
- Win98SE w/Autopatcher Update
- Puppy Linux (2.14 or Latest as of Shipping Date)
- Ubuntu (6.10 where available or higher if I can get it to function, Xubuntu or Ubuntu Preferred)
- Blank Hard Drive (Not recommended unless you have a CD Drive!)
Intel Pentium II 300mhz Processor
PC66 64MB and 32MB RAM (128MB Total with on-board)
Ultrabay Battery and Battery (both maybe DOA)
Official Power Supply
6GB Hard Drive
NO FDD OR CDD
1 USB Port
Proprietary TV-Out Port (Cable NOT included)
13.3" LCD
Power Supply
I cannot guarantee ANY sort of battery life.
Another items of note:
Code: Select all
- Some may have scuff marks where paint is chipped off, nothing major and not on all of them.
- The BIOS Batteries will need to be replaced on most of them. I will not test beyond power up after an overnight charge.
Asking price is $40 shipped through within the Continental United States. PayPal preferred, pm if paying with a PayPal CC.
All laptops will be shipped via USPS flat-rate shipping with Insurance and Delivery Confirmation valued at $40. Other shipping methods will cost extra, as will shipping out of the Country, unless you have a FedexKinkos account or similar that I can charge.
I guarantee all laptops I send will not be DOA.
FIRST COME FIRST SERVE! ANY UNSOLD LAPTOPS BY THE 30TH OF APRIL GO TO eBay!
Please send payment to dreamsavant [AT]gmail . com .

Very very tempting, I need an energy-efficient older box to run as a server. Is the USB port 2.0?
eBayed this and laughed:

"Speed: Intel Pentium II Processor 366 MHZ - Fast and Reliable - Enjoy the POWER"
"Screen Display: Huge 13.3" TFT"
"Ram (Memory): 128 MB - Makes ALL your Applications RUN LIGHTING FAST"
"Hard Drive: SUPER HUGE 5 GB Lot's of room to store ALL your files and Data"
"AC Adapter: Optional $20.00"
Moderator edit: Please trim quotes. No need to quote entire post just to ask one question.

No, it's USB1.1. In general, you can safely assume that anything made in 2001 or before has version 1.1.

I almost felt insulted when I saw the description:
"Hard Drive: SUPER HUGE 5 GB Lot's of room to store ALL your files and Data" on that auction listing, since I was thinking maybe I should write down something like "It has a 30GB 4200rpm hard drive. Though it's not a huge or a fast one however it should be enough for someone who only use for simple tasks" in my TP240 selling description.
Anyway, green for OP. I will jump in for one if it comes with other two spindles.

If I had some extra money, I would snag a lot of Wifi Cards and be on the hunt for cheap drives. That post makes me jealous.
USB 1.1.
I am going to have to see if I can invest in these machines a little and get more out of them on ebay once the month is up...

As luck would have it, I have a couple of small inexpensive drives and even some of the old IBM WiFi "B" cards, so it should be an inexpensive internet machine project for me.

Explain: Nice post. I will consider buying if it comes with FDD/CDROM(two spindles)
Sorry for being a FWer(FatWallet-er) here. I was in a hurry when I post last time and thought I was in the FatWallet forum... this is just one of those days I don't know where I am when I wake up in the morning(or at night)...

No worries.
If I had the drives, I wouldn't mind at all putting them in the machines. Apparently BOA decided their employees needed no such devices.

As of right now I CAN ACCEPT NO MORE PAYMENTS. Any and all payments sent now are subject to refund at my discretion (meaning I will refund unless I think there is the SLIGHTEST possibility of having something, which is null atm). Sorry.
Thanks for you interest and I will keep everyone posted if there is more.

Sweet laptop. I saw XP run on one with specs like that. It was painful. Upgrading it to 192 MB of RAM made it a touch less painful.

Mine were supposed to be 2 of the ones he was supposed to get this week from the school. I know how hectic life can be, so no worries that they haven't been shipped yet. Maybe the contact at the school was still away or their schedules just didn't jive to allow him to get the laptops this week? I ship stuff all the time and admit to being a procrastinator myself sometimes. But an update would be comforting as I have not heard anything here or via e-mail???
Bump for an update

I'm now able to answer my own question on this since my 600e arrived the other day and after ascertaining that the A/C adapter was dead and using another one this morning, am able to report that the machine is great!

I don't have a CD-ROM for it yet, but with the stock 98SE OS and the 128Mb of RAM it came with, it seems to run very well. As an added bonus, the case is in outstanding condition for the age!
Thanks, a lot to Jose (Dark Savant) for the positively outstanding deal!

Mine arrived this week, it was not packaged the greatest. It came with ac adapter, no cdrom but with a second battery which fits where the cdrom normally goes. The unit works great, I am a satisified customer.
Thanks,

Well, I got my 2 this week. Finally had a chance to check them tonight. One had a non working trackpoint and the other looked like it took a few tumbles in a cement mixer. The cover was seriously scratched & scuffed. They were thrown in a box with no packaging material at all. Just 2 laptops and 2 ac adapters bouncing around in a box. Not even wrapped in newspaper to keep them protected.
Anyway, I guess I can't complain for the price, but a little more care in packaging wouldn't have taken that much effort and could have saved the lids from getting all scratched up by the ac adapters. They do both boot to windows after the CMOS battery error is taken acre of. As for the track point, I will be giving that one to my dad anyway and he uses a mouse, so no worries there. It will be an upgrade for him as he is now using an I series.
Sorry for the rant. Just neded to get it off my chest. Considering the price I guess I can't complain too much. Thanks for the good deal Jose.

Mine arived in working order. The machine had lots of scuffs and there was a minor crack in the palm rest and the main battery was dead. However, the ultrabay battery works just fine, the computer had OS and drivers installed and came with power cord and for the price, it was a great deal. Unfortunately, I accidently broke the CMOS battery connector off the mainboard so now I get to re-enter the date and time anytime I leave the computer off and unplugged for more than 10 minutes but that was my fault.
After replacing the CPU with a 366mhz PII w/ on chip cache, the system performs great.
As far as packaging, mine actually came well protected with plenty of newspaper and padding so I can't say anything there.
