I'm looking for an Ultrabay 2000 guide rail for my T22. Send me a PM if you have one.

Thanks

What exactly do you mean by UltraBay guide rail?
Are you referring to the plastic rails on the sides of UltraBay 2000 drives?

What the OP is looking for is the metal cage assembly that the Ultrabay 2000 device slides into. I guess that the rear mounting tab has broken off and as such, causes the chassis to flex at the right rear corner.

My T22 is doing this, what is the rear mounting tab thing?

The tab belongs to the Ultrabay housing. The Ultrabay cage is is labeled "g" in this picture and I marked the tab with a red circle.

Oh, OK, is that thing breaking often?

If so, I'll probably go in a local college get an L bracket built and punched on it, it'll be more solid. Or else, there's a guy with lots of Thinkpad body parts in my area.

I think I have a better idea than my last one to fix that corner : Maybe an U bracket made of good steel punched directly on the cover's side would work?

The rail, (or better yet, the assembly) is made out of aluminum. The part that breaks is actually just a tang sticking out 90 degrees from the main body. Then there is another "L" shaped, (L on it's side) piece riveted to the tang. The tang breaks that has the L riveted to it and there isn't much to work with as far as room once it's installed. Repair is almost impossible. Welding would be the best option but the plastic would have to be removed to keep it from melting and even then the weld bead might cause interference with other items in the chassis.

Well, I thought of making an U and punch it to the metal cover just like how the L was assembled. It doesn't really look riveted but more punched in there.

I thought the guide rail was just the metal cover, so I only undid one screw and cut off a little plastic bit to get only the metal cover and the rest of the rail is still in the laptop.

I'll see if it's possible first and take a picture if things work out fine. Otherwise, I can buy a good assembly for $20 locally, but it's going to be prone to breaking too.

What about "boxing" in the two open sides, (on a good one), it would be on the left & right as it sits in front of you? That would add a little rigidity. Maybe a little JB Weld would work wonders.

Yep, that's exactly the issue and part I'm still looking for.

I have one. The plastic "eject" assembly has been epoxied back on but I would be scared of using it.

Let me know.

Oops! Just found that I asked a question here in my old e-mails. There's a guy selling lots of ThinkPad parts in my area. He has the whole rails thing for $20 CAD and at least there's no shipping to pay on it so I think that it will be the solution.
