WTB;Barebones system around $100.00

#1 Post by SaberX » Sat Apr 07, 2007 7:41 pm

I have about $100.00~$120.00 to spend on a laptop.
I'm hoping for something with 14.1" screen or bigger.
Also a P-III 800 or better.
A T22 would be nice.
I dont need a cd/dvd-rom or hard drive.
Ram would be nice but to get the price down abit lower i could go with out it.
Any one have anything?
Other than the no hdd,cd/dvd drive, and ram, laptop must be in good working order.
Thanks
Bill

eBay and do a search for brucecomputersystems. He's got a T21 800mHz for a BIN of $79.00.

If you email him, mention to him that you are from here (with username), and maybe it will carry some weight in his decision.

Looking at that T21 from his e-bay...It has a screen problem...
The 14" screen is crisp and sharp looking, but upon boot up, it has a pinkish color. After a few seconds, it turns to white. It is commonly referred to as having a "boot red" screen.
Does this meen the screen is on the way out??

That means that the backlight is failing.

No, the backlight is inside of the LCD panel. You would either have to replace the bulb or the entire LCD.

My advice to you would be to wait a bit, because you'll get a bargain eventually, possibly a T23 for that amount. For crying out loud, I've sold a wireless T23, completely stripped but working for $130 a few months ago...you should definitely be able to get a T22 for that amount of money.

If you want a bigger screen, you may want to do a search on A20/21/22P series, they've got UXGA resolution and can be found reasonably cheap if they need work or parts. The same goes for A22Ms, if you don't need the UXGA resolution.

No problem, glad you liked my advice. And, yes, T22 has been sold.

You should see how well that 570E I sent you works out. When I had it, I was able to run XP and Office 2003 just fine. I also liked how light the computer was.

Ya i think i may just do that.
Only thing i done like with the 570E is it only has one ram slot.
I guess if i put(find) a 256meg chip into it it should run XP Pro fine.
It's just trying to find a 256meg chip for a good price.
Thanks again.
