Parting out my T40p 2373-G3U

#1 Post by m_a_b » Mon Apr 09, 2007 9:45 am

Well, much to my dismay, my video card is dead and is rendering my T40p useless, so after looking into several options, I have decided to part it out and just buy another. So, if you need any parts let me know. Most everything on the laptop is in excellent condition and a few parts are actually relatively new that I had just upgraded about 6 months ago. Anyways, here are the highlights - if you need anything else, I probably have it, so just ask.
  • 14.1" LCD screen with bluetooth and wifi antennas
  • Thinkpad (Atheros) a/b wireless network card
  • Thinkpad (atheros) a/b/g wireless network card (only a few months old)
  • 512 MB RAM that came with the system
  • 1 GB RAM that I upgraded to (Crucial Memory only a few months old)
  • Bluetooth card (Actiontec IIRC)
  • Ultrabay slim CD/DVD/CD-RW
  • Intel 1.6 GHz Centrino Mobile Processor
  • Processor/Video card fan
  • 2 Palmrests with touchpad (one has a few small cracks that I superglued together, the other is perfect mechanically but has a visual blemish where I took the stickers off)
  • Thinkpad keyboard with trackpoint mouse and buttons
  • all the case parts are in good to excellent condition
  • I also have a 4 GB hard drive that I used as an external drive - now I am going to use my Thinkpad hard drive, so the 60GB drive is not for sale.
  • Extended battery that is decent. Good enough to use the computer for short periods of time unplugged, but not good for people that are mobile a lot. Lasts about 2 hours under normal use as an estimate.
  • lastly, I have a dead motherboard due to a faulty video card - in case anyone wants to try to fix it.
Just PM me if you are interested in anything. Also I am in the US and my zipcode is 24301 in case you want to calculate shipping.

please - if you are interested in a part, just make me a fair offer. I'm not trying to get rich, but I also don't want to give them away since I am trying to raise money towards a new computer. You can look up the new prices on Lenovo's site and just discount it for usage and what you would like to pay. You pay shipping.

I could spend some time and put prices on everything, but that doesn't find me a buyer - tell me what you want to pay and if I think it is fair, it is yours! 8)

the best way to get a response from me is to send me a PM. I really don't check this site much, but I get emails when I get a PM.

The wireless cards are as follows:
The a/b/g card is FRU P/N 39T0355
The a/b card is FRU P/N 91P7265

I have no idea which models they are compatible with - I would assume anything that has a miniPCI slot, but that is just a guess. If you don't have a T40p, then I can't tell you for sure if they are what you need.

I have had a lot of offers (some fair, some not), but so far I haven't sold anything! So, all parts are still available.

Please - I am not into wasting time, so if you want something, just send me a fair offer and be serious. It just isn't good etiquette to send an offer and then back out when I accept!

I consider a "fair" offer to be one that can be backed up by ebay prices or some other source and then discount it a little. Obviously, if I am going to take a beating on these parts here, I'll just go to ebay and sell everything, so just be reasonable.

Just a tip, a short while back I had great succes parting out a T40.

I listed all available items with desired prices. Everything sold quickly except the flakey systemboard. I sold that on eBay for nearly twice what I was asking in my forum ad.

A picture helps, too. Good luck. My ad is below.

"Thinkpad (atheros) a/b/g wireless network card (only a few months old)"

I've never used an Atheros card before. I wonder if this would have a better range than an Intel 2200bg. I just picked up a T40 without a wifi card, so I'll be looking for a card.
