[Needed] Minipci wifi for R32

#1 Post by 6izmo » Tue Apr 10, 2007 12:42 pm

I have a Intel 2100 3b but in my case it's impossible to avoid 1802 error.

I need one minipci that works and that perform a big range wifi.

I pay for it AND/OR change if anyone wants.

Greetings

FYI-

I believe that R32's are one of the few models that the NO-1802.COM hack does NOT work. I have a friend with one who tried quite a few cards and the hack with no success. He wanted to upgrade from the internal B card to a G card. Google will turn up info about this issue, too.

However, I do know that the original adapter that came in the wireless equipped R32 models will work. It is the combo IBM 802.11b / modem adapter (Actiontec, I think).

Let us know if you'd like one of those. I have at least one. And it's yours for $12 delivered to Spain. You'll probably have to remove any other modem (mini-pci or CDC) to avoid issues.

I have the minipci slot free, yes, I'd like it it should work, doesnt it?

And the modem I don't know where is located... it willl be neccesary to remove it? I have the modem disabled in Windows.

What about the wifi range with this card. . . better than with a normal stick usb wifi?

Pass me by MP your paypal account & I pay you, and pass you the shipping information by MP

Thanks in advance

PS: You are not interested in the minipci I tell you in the previous post, don't you?

The R32 has a CDC slot buried under the keyboard. The CDC slot contains a CDC modem. You will probably have to remove it because you might receive and error like "too many modems" - this happens with two Ethernet adapters in some ThinkPads. Disabling in Windows won't help because it's a BIOS conflict. However, you can always try it first before operating.

The range is fine, but unless you have an R32 that had this card removed previously, you won't have antenna's in the LCD. So reception will be awful - unless you iinstall antennas. R40's were the first R-series to be prewired for WiFi. (UPDATE: Some R32 models were prewired for upgrade!)

If you still want the adapter, let me know. (I don't have any spare antennas!)

What is the exact 7 digit model number of your R32?

It's incredible yes, but my R32 brings the antennas pre-installed.

2659-J3G

It's really a pity that modem could say the message. . . . It's possible to disable cdc modem from bios?

Greetings

PS:it should be error 01C8

More than one modem devices are found. Remove one of them. Press Esc to continue.

1. Remove either a Mini PCI modem card or a modem daughter card; otherwise press Esc to ignore the warning message.
2. System board

Is it very dificult to access cdc on R32, as you say under the keyboard I imagine it should be neccesary tu disassemble a lot of before. It's not like mini pci, or RAM. Is it?

Do you have a ibm high rate without modem?

Thanks

Great on the R32 antennas.

I don't think you can disable the modem from the BIOS, but I'm not sure.

I installed a modem in an R30's CDC, and it wasn't too bad. Just use the IBM hardware maintenance manual and you'll be OK - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-42939

IBM did use an Actiontec wifi card without the modem, but it was for G40 & R40/e models, I do not know if it will work for R32's.

You've got PM with my PayPal email address.

Let us know how it turns out.
