x24 for sale *PICS UPDATED* SOLD...THANKS EVERYONE!

#1 Post by ducky2802 » Mon Apr 23, 2007 2:38 pm

Hi Everyone,

I will be selliing my Thinkpad X24. Ideally, I would like to get $425 shipped to the contiguous USA. Why the price? Because that is pretty much what I paid, minus some losses. If the price doesnt scare you away just yet, please feel free to read on.

The X24 is in excellent condition, clean all the way around, no marks and absolutely no shiny keys. Finish is good condition as well. Specs: Pentium III-M 1.13Ghz, 256mb ram, brand new seagate 80Gb Hdd (warranty until 2010), brand new Linksys wireless G card, brand new Booq hard cover carrying case, AC adaptor, and a good battery 3.0/4.4 AH of power. For some reason though, the low warning indicator comes on early, but computer gets 1-2 hours of runtime. Absolutely no marks on screen, no keyboard dings, and plenty bright. One stuck pixel (green color) in third quadrant of screen.

Includes X2 ultray base. Ultra base has its fair share of marks, but nothing major. Installed is a floppy and CD-ROM drive, which can be swapped out with a rare DVD-RW/CD-RW ultrabay 2000 drive, included as well.

Also included is a Mini dock, which has an additional USB port and a slew of connectivity options.

Installed on the X24 is XP Pro, Office 2003 Pro, Power DVD, Photoshop 7.0, and some engineering/math programs if desired, otherwise they will be removed (matlab, mathcad, sap2000).

Computer is fully loaded, needs nothing to be a travel or desktop companion, and everything works 100%. Please pm me for inquiries and thanks.

I hate to tell you, but...a couple of months ago I've sold my X24 which looked like it has never left the house, had 640Mb RAM, 80Gb/5400 seagate under warranty and internal wireless. Along with it went a brand new Sanyo generic battery (the old one still kept good charge), Targus leather case and almost as good (9 out of 10) ultrabase with combo and floppy drives...$405, eBay...meaning I was left with $380 or something like that before PayPal...

That being said, I'm not in the market for an X24, or any small machine for that fact. So I'm not trying to chew you down to get a good deal.

In my not so modest opinion, you'll be lucky to get anything pass $300, and that's on eBay, not on this forum.

Oh, did I mention that I've just sold my X31 (no ultrabase though, but 1.4 Pentium M and 512Mb RAM, 60Gb/5400 HDD, brand new keyboard and internal wireless card) for $340...?

I love X24s and have had at least 8 of them, but GOOD LUCK with the aforementioned combination of description and price.

hehe...I try. I only post the price because I add up all the parts:

x24+ CD/floppy base=300
seagate 80Gb 5400rpm=50
wireless card 54G=20
IBM ultrabay dvd/cd burner=20
mini dock=20
booq bag=10
Ill toss in a PCMCIA TV card, for free
Did I overspend anywhere?

So, again, I know the price is kinda high, and maybe I am expecting way too much, but its a good computer as you understand, and again, all the incurred parts have put me back. I ebay a regular x24, and it looks like the $300 is about the going rate. And I know on the additional parts, I paid what I consider a fairly good price, so total on this is most likely the sum of what I paid, not including shipping on all the parts.

A rule of thumb is that one can get more money by selling the parts separately; conversely you get less by selling all of them in one package like you're doing here. Another rule of thumb is that tech products depreciate very fast, on average about 1/3 (i.e. 33%) per year. These considerations explain why everyone thinks your X24 is overpriced.

I've sold dozens of laptops and know very well how it feels to lose money (the worst case was selling a $1,700 Dell laptop for $370 just two and a half years later even though it was still in mint condition), but that's unavoidable.
Microsoft Surface 3 (Atom x7-Z8700 / 4GB / 128GB / LTE)
Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)
Acer T272HUL; Crossover 404K; Dell 3008WFP, U2715H, U2711, P2416D; Monoprice 10734; QNIX QHD2410R; Seiki Pro SM40UNP

Thank you for all your replies. I am well versed in the price of laptops depreciating, I have sold many computers before, I have taken hits on electronics, cars, etc. as well, and in some cases, made a little money. I am not here to argue about the inevitable price drops on disposable items, or good investments, or bad money practices, only that I have a computer for sale, using parts, which have a market price right at this very moment, almost exactly, if not slightly higher than what I have listed here.

Im sure that there are people out there who have bought T60s BNIB for less than $500, off lease T42p's in perfect working condition for under $200, and the occasional T2x for under $80. At the same time, there are people like me, who didnt get in on the super exclusive deal of a lifetime, and do purchase regularly computers off-lease and on ebay, etc. and apparently, the going rate for a standard X24 is right now, around $300, which is what I paid. So, again, if anyone is interested in this forum to purchase an X24 that is as I describe, with all the parts and accessories as I have included, please feel free to send me an offer. I am more than positive that this is not the best deal you can get, but I do offer a computer for sale, with parts and condition as I decribe, and an honest business transaction. Thank you.

Although I think your machine is overpriced, $350 would be pretty tempting (for others I know, not me). I do have to say that I find your honesty regarding the package very refreshing and admirable. I wish you luck in selling your machine.
