FS:Compaq 2700US laptop parts

#1 Post by SaberX » Fri Apr 27, 2007 11:18 pm

I bought this laptop from a friend for parts. He just wanted to get ride of it so i got it.
It will start for about 5 sec's than shut off.I'm sure the system board has seen better days.
So i have the parts from it to sell.
It's a Compaq Presario 2700US.
It has a P-III-M 1Ghz cpu.
15" TFT XGA lcd .
Looks like it has a slot for video ram upgrade. It now has a 32meg in that.
One side has a dvd-rom and the other side has a cd-rw in it.
Selling the ram in another post.
Full laptop minus the ram and hard drive.
Anyone need any parts from it?

Shipping is extra but the parts are going cheap.
send me an off on something you want.

Before you go parting it out, I would try putting some Arctic Silver on the CPU, because it sounds almost like a heat issue.

I just got through fooling around with it a little.
Looks like the hard drive was causing the shut downs.
It had a 40gig drive in it.
I took the hard drive out and put in a Knoppix cd that boots from the cd.
With no hard drive in the system it booted up and ran that Knoppix cd fine.Had it running for a few hr's.

I have tryed the 40gig that came out if it in another system and it's tost.
So i guess it just needs a hard drive.
One thing i found is where the cpu fan pluges onto the board,it's brok off.Someone had joined the wires from the other fan to the cpu fan.So both fans come on the same time.

Interesting...I haven't heard of a hard drive causing a machine to just shut down, unless it there was a weird virus on it.

The problem with the fan sounds more like the cause of it shutting down suddenly....but then again, now it seems to be working.

Time to ponder....should you sell it as a working machine, or still as parts???

Ya it's strange. It's working great now with no hard drive and that Knoppix cd.
I would still sell it clased as parts.I just would not want to sell it as a working system and than it give out again.

I think i may look for a trade for a 600X system.
The Compaq i have is a full system.
P-III-M 1Ghz
I'll put a single 256meg pc-133 ram in it.
**No hard drive**
15" TFT XGA screen.Looks good with the Knoppix.
cd-wr and a dvd-rom drives
This system even has firewire on it.
battery holds charge, dont know ho long.
AC adapter
even the restore cd with XP Hom on it.
The cpu fan is wired into the other system fan, seems to work OK.
Also there is some screws missing on the bottom. Not manny but a few missing.
I'll trade the whole works for a bare bones Thinkpad 600X

Well looks like the system board gave out today.
So i have the parts for it here to sell.Mostly pay the shipping and a little extra.
Shipping from Canada.
Good 15" XGA lcd panel.# on back of panal is LG LP 150z2 (A2m1)
cd-rw burner
dvd-rom
floppy drive
keyboard
P-III _M 1Ghz cpu
good battery(dont know how long)
AC adapter
system restore cd's for the 2700's
lots of other little parts.
The LCD is taken apart but all there.I wanted to get the part # off the back of the lcd panel.
Shipping i'm guessing is about $25.00 to 30.00 based on a thinkpad i sent few weeks ago.Thats for air with tracking #.

Someone give me $60.00US for the whole thing(30.00 for the laptop and 30.00 for shipping) and i'll send it out to them.

The cpu , dvd-rom and cd-rw is worth that alone.

The system is now sold,I have the payment for it.
I'm not into to make money. It's just a hobby for me.I just sold it for what i i got it from my buddy for.
It's just way up here in newfoundland Canada i would have never sold this Compaq the way it is.It would have been just sitting on the desk until one day it would have went in the trash. Here there not much market for used laptop parts.
This is why i got a deal on the dvd-rw in another post i made.
This post can be locked up.
And thanks to the few PM's and intrest i got on it.
