A friend wants to sell me his T-42P for $750

#1 Post by silo » Mon Apr 30, 2007 8:35 pm

It's in pretty nice shape, with a gig of ram. It's got the 15" flexview [?] screen 1400x1050 (I think). The 1.7Ghz Centrino, 60G 5400 drive, whatever. He told me it's model 2373JXU which I looked up on the lenovo site.

I just don't know if $750 is a good price. He said he might dicker a little, so I figure that means he'l drop it to 725 by the time things are settled.

Any advice, presuming the thing seems like it's in good shape? I'm replacing an old T23 and I've got a 7200 RPM 80 G drive, but I think I remember they changed the drive size with the T42 so maybe I can't get the drive to fit. I've also got a DVD R/W in the T23, so maybe that'll move, or maybe not.

Anyway, a little help would be much appreciated.

Specs for the 2373JXU:

Product: ThinkPad T42 2373-JXU
Original description: P M 735, 512MB RAM, 40GB 5400rpm HDD, 15 SXGA+(1400x1050) TFT LCD, 64MB ATI Radeon 9600, 24x24x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD, IBM 802.11b/g wireless(MPCI), Modem(CDC), 1Gb Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Secure Chip, 6 cell Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro

It's not indicated as Flexview, and it's just T42 (no "p"). Unless it has lots of warranty left, I don't think it's a good price even though the RAM and HDD have been upgraded. So, try to find out how much warranty remains.

the dvd-rw drive wont work (size is physically different), but you can swap out your hard drives in about 2 min.
