I paid too much for my T42?

#1 Post by silo » Thu May 03, 2007 8:07 pm

I bought a T42 on eBay and paid $550. It's model 2373Y4C and has:

Intel® Pentium® M Processor 735 1.7 GHz 2MB cache
Graphic ATI RADEON 9600 64MB
Memory 1GB DDR RAM, 2 DIMMs
Hard Drives 40GB Hard Drive 5400RPM
Modem / NIC Internal Thinkpad 56K modem
Intel Pro/1000 Gigabit controller
Module Bay Devices CD-RW/ DVD COMBO
Batteries 6 Cell Primary Battery
Screen 14 inches TFT SXGA+ 1400 x 1050 very good
AC Adapter 72W A/C Adapter
Wireless / Bluetooth Intel Pro2200 B/G WLAN

Some of this is add-on, I believe. What I'm wondering is whether I paid too much, and if so, by how much? Some others were going at the $640 price point, and some T41's went pretty much cheaper. I got this one because of the graphics, the G of memory, the 1400x1050 screen, and the wireless. I'm going to replace the drive with an 80G 7200RPM drive I already have (if it fits).

Also it had real pictures and looked pretty good.

Alsa, today I notice there are several new T41 and T42 models for sale here.

I agree, it's a great price, espcially if it measures up when it arrives. Any warranty? That would be even sweeter! Enjoy it.

Very sweet deal.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

Some say there are three things that you should look out for when buying laptops. The graphics chip, screen resolution and finally the warranty.

How much warranty was left with the machine?

if it's the one I was thinking about, it's out of warranty.

I was actually about to click on buy it now when you bought it.

It was the best T42 in that price range (well, that was listed as Buy It Now) on ebay for the past few days...I should have bit on it when I had the chance, but wanted to wait and debate over an older Pentium M with better video specs or a weaker Core Duo.

But, it's just as well. for $550, I got an R60 that, while having less RAM and crappy video, had a Core Duo and long warranty.

I think that is a good deal as well. For $550, you can't complain!

If $550 includes shipping, it's a good price.

$550 for either is fantastic. The R60 also had a DVD burner, nice!

Yeah, that's the one. I have an 80G 7200 Hitachi drive and a DVD burner (I think it'll fit--it's in a T23 right now). I haven't got it yet so can't say anything about condition etc. It looked pretty OK and the shipping was immediate (if ground), so I think it arrives Wed.

I'm hoping it's good, but off eBay it's a risk every time. I'm sure the R60 will be just as good--sounds great from the listing. I don't know much about that model.

The DVD Burner from a T23 cannot fit in a T42, it's too thick.

Plus the fact that they use different types of Ultrabay devices.

I think it's about time this one slipped into obscurity, and let the FS/WTB ads appear where they belong.

Congrats on a good deal!
