WTB: Super MultiBurner (8X DVD) for T42

#1 Post by silo » Wed May 23, 2007 4:02 am

I found these on the IBM used & Refurb site for $159 but I'm not sure they are the right ones. Says compatible with T40 but does not mention T42.

Also found on eBay here

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... &rd=1&rd=1

but this one says 6X is max speed writing DVD-R and DVD+R.

I'd be happy to buy a different one if there is one available here at a minimum of 8X, or faster.

I understand that I'm better off with an 18X external burner, but it's external which changes its usefulness.

A little help with this one?

Many thanks.

I THINK thas has a flat bezel, so a little portion of the bezel will be sticking out of your right side. Plus it will be more difficult to eject without lifting the ThinkPad's right side to reach the lock and lever.

I do have one more UJ-822 for the T42, I will check for the part number tonight and let you know if this is 6x or 8x or lower.

I didn't think that the T4x and T6x could take the same burner from what I've read around here...a search of the FRU brings up links that clearly state it's a T/R/X60 compatible burner, thus I probably wouldn't rely on that being an accurate advert (although I'm glad to be proven wrong). The one you saw on the used and refurb site should be fine though.

KhristianJ,

It will work, except for that one problem that I posted in above.

I ordered this one from the IBM site

http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/store ... 8425410084

After further reading where it says compatible with T40 _Series_ and after reading this

http://www5.pc.ibm.com/europe/products. ... enDocument

which was referenced in another msg on the forum by Johan
which is here

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... ner#244191

and seems the definitive post on the subject of DVD burners in T42's.

In particular note the Model name on the one IBM is selling (40Y8622) and the Model name on the one in the 2nd link above where write speed is stated by IBM as 8X for DVD+/-RW.

Anyway, I ordered it and if it doesn't work i'll scream and return it. If they'll let me.
