First, up front, let me tell everyone that this is a GREY MARKET machine assembled from parts. It has ZERO Lenovo warranty and the serial number on the system board will not pull up as having a warranty either.

I will include a 60-day parts warranty on the system.

As regulars to the forum know, I use one of these systems as my own personal system (see sig) and they are just as rock solid as one assembled in the factory for significantly less money.

I am seriously interested in this machine (the specs are almost perfect), but I am also seriously interested in one that has 15" UXGA - ATI FireGL V5250 (256MB)... my eyes are old, and the higher resolution surely helps.

If your eyes are old how can the UXGA help this? I'm curious as I am in the same situation (aging) and had to sell my UXGA R50p to go to the slightly larger text of the SXGA+.

By the way this laptop is a nice configuration as I just purchased a similar T60 and love it. The 15" SXGA+ Flexview on a T60 is so far superior to the non-Flexview that even my WIFE scolded me for not buying that one for her in the first time around! It was a lot more money and worth every penny.

Well, maybe it's just my eyes (severe astigmatism, night-blindness), but I've noticed that SHARPNESS is much more important than SIZE.
Sharp, focused 10-point is easier on my eyes that even slightly blurry, un-focused 12-point.

My son recently purchased a top-of-the-line HP laptop, and I was amazed at how legible even the 6-point text was (my son inherited his mother's eyes, thank God). His machine has a 17" wide-screen. Not exactly portable, but it sure is pretty!

Actually, I also prefer the Flexview (wider field of view, and brighter), and if the machine had the up-rated video GPU/RAM, I would be checking my bank balance (if it had nVidia. I'd be begging or borrowing). But I don't get off work until Tuesday morning, and this machine will be gone by then.

FYI, this DOES have a Flexview LCD. It's not just the UXGA, but some SXGA LCDs are Flexview as well.

Frankly, I'm puzzled. I'm having a difficult time figuring out just why this laptop is still here and not on it's way to a lucky buyer? I mean, on this forum and others people are crying about the death of the Flexview screen and how horrible that is, and these same forums have details on buying these laptops and how to save money doing so. The "deals" people are bragging about potentialy receiving are a hot topic. Yet this laptop here is a far better deal than ANY one I've seen people post (that is available to mortals and not EPP). It can only be the warranty (or lack thereof) that is holding people back, but I'm not bothered by that at all. Therefore I'll make the following offer to anyone bothered by that... Below is a Thinkpad configured at Lenovo just now that matches as close as possible to MY T60 bought just 2 weeks ago and under the 3-year warranty from then. I have even subtracted a $250 coupon being touted by others which gives one a "free" Flexview upgrade from base. The total with the coupon applied is $1868 + tax. Now because mine has been used for a couple of weeks I will knock off another $200 AND I'm not a business so I don't collect sales tax either!... so for $1668 I will deliver you a two week used 2007-7KU which is just like the laptop configured below (without sale tax which is likely at least another $100 savings!). I WILL THEN BUY THIS LAPTOP FROM BRENT IMMEDIATELY, no questions asked! So if anyone thinks I'm joking about this, or doesn't think this (Brent's T60) is the best deal around, try me!

Nor should it happen - I won't dispute it's a great deal for the price. The exchange rate being as good as it is between Australia and the US at the moment, I'd have been keen if I had the budget.

Perhaps people are just not in the market for such a machine at the moment in such a variable marketplace, but I wouldn't be discouraged by that. The time will come, and everyone knows how reliable and stellar (to use his own words) Brent is as a seller. Trust him, when he says he'll get rid of the dust, he'll do it!!

Yak, as you said, there may be something about the smaller period of warranty offered by Brent, but if I was considering the purchase his reputation more than cancels out such concerns.

But I'll be up front with you. Being a brand new member, wanting to purchase an expensive item, does not set my mind at ease. Too many bad transactions on many an internet forum have started this way.

I would require the full purchase price up front in a cash equivalent (bank wire, Moneygram, Western Union). Due to the potential for fraudulent chargebacks, I will not accept Paypal under these circumstances.

I ONLY use Express Mail shipping for international shipping of laptops, and the package would be fully insured for the full purchase price. You would be responsible for any customs duties on your end.

The shipping and insurance charge would be between $60-80 (depending on the exact package weight after it was boxed up).

As far as I can see, you then have the money and take no risk. If anything, the risk is with the buyer if you don't ship the goods as promised.

Some US Banks actually have trouble pulling the funds out of European banks by any method other than a wire transfer.

Heck, it once took me a month to cash a $50 Canadian Money Order, and that was drawn off the bank of Canada.

That is the underlying premise - the US banking system is all screwed up.

I see... so it's just a matter of the hassle until you finally get the cash then, not so much a question of the risk of not being paid.

I can understand such problems, as I'm familiar with both the American and EU (Germany) banking systems.

The situation here isn't quite as bad as what you describe, but it'll still cost you EUR 15.00 or $20.25 at the current rate of exchange to cash a U.S. dollar check drawn on an American bank, which makes that route for anything but larger payments uneconomical. The clearing time is around two weeks, if I remember correctly (I don't get many such checks).
