Update 7/9/2007 5:00 PM
No longer available. eBay sales are going much better than expected. Thanks to those who did purchase, and look for lots of parts soon!

Hello All-

As I posted earlier, I came across a big lot of T40s, some of which needed minor repair, and I have them ready to go. Since I know this group can be particular (and I mean that in a good way), I'm offering the best ones I have here. Here goes:

Common specs:
* 2373-72U
* 14" XGA (1024x768)
* 1.5 GHz P-M
* 512 MB RAM (2 x 256MB)
* 40 GB Seagate 5400 RPM disk (new, with 5 year warranty)
* DVD/CDRW

Cosmetic condition
In general, these are in very good cosmetic condition:
* The screens are flawless, with no scratches, impressions, or obvious dead/stuck pixels
* There is no cracked plastic
* No missing screws or screw covers
* The top and bottom show very light to normal wear (see below)
* Keyboards are like new or close (see below)

Individual Details:
These are listed by my inventory number, which is essentially meaningless:
6: Top and bottom 9/10. Keyboard 10/10. SOLD
7: Top and bottom 8/10. Keyboard 10/10. The latches stick ever so slightly when closed slowly, but not when I close it "normally" Not available
8: Top and bottom 9/10. Keyboard 9/10 - few keys with very slight shine. SOLD
10: Top and bottom 9/10. Keyboard 10/10. SOLD
21: Top and bottom 8/10. Keyboard 9/10 - few keys with very slight shine. Not available

Software:
The disks were built from the restore image, and the recovery partition is intact. You can either have the image as recovered, or an updated one. This includes all XP updates, and bunch of software: Open Office, Firefox, Thunderbird, AVG Anti Virus, and several others.

Wireless:
These don't come with wireless, but I can add it for $10. I have Dell TrueMobile 1150 wireless B cards, which have an Agere chipset. It'll work out of the box: no CMOS hack is required, and the driver comes with XP. An updated driver supporting WPA is available on Dell's site.

Accessories:
Included is an AC adapter and a battery. I've tested the batteries, and you will get a fully-charged battery with fewer than 50 cycles, that shows it'll be good for at least 2 hours on "Super Power Saver". I make no further guarantee as to battery condition.

Pictures:
Pictures are available at http://bnbstauffer.net/tpf/. There is a sub-album for each unit. Warning: the pictures linked from the medium-sized images are gigantic - about 1.5 MB each.

Price/Payment:
Price is $350 plus actual shipping. I accept Google Checkout (free CC payment), PayPal (add 3%), or USPS money order if absolutely necessary.

Shipping:
I can ship in a USPS flat-rate box for $15 insured. I'll also ship UPS/Fedex, in a larger box, allowing for more packing material, and the cost will vary. I will ship anywhere, but won't lie on customs forms, so please don't ask.

If interested, please email me through the forum and let me know which unit you want, whether you want wireless, whether you want original or updated software, and which payment method you prefer.

I know I'm not well-known here, so a little about me. I'm a professional Linux geek that's doing this for a few extra bucks. Check out my eBay profile here: http://myworld.ebay.com/bstauffer1/. A glance at my recent transactions should let you know that this is for real.

Thanks for looking!

Actually, it is Pentium M, which is much better than Pentium 4M.

Is that one 512MB stick or two 256MB sticks?

Just sent you a pm. Also, what kinds of repairs were done on these? Thanks.

On a lot of them, none. Otherwise, it was mostly broken LCDs, cracked palmrests, bad DIMMs, etc. It was basically a big game of "musical parts".

I'm considering getting an inexpensive backup system for my T41 (especially since it's gone off warranty), and these seem to fit the bill. However, questions regarding this:

Will my T41 memory (2x1GB PC2700) work in these T40s?

How about my spare batteries, ultraslim bay for 2nd HDD, cdrw/dvd (in case the one that comes with the T40 breaks), Port Replicator II, and the 80GB 7K100 PATA drive in the native slot on the T40?

Thanks for any help. They look like good systems.

Add to this list of component-compatibility questions: will my T41 power supply/adapter work with the T40s?

Yes, your T41 power supply will work with the 600 series, the A2x, A3x, the R3x, the R4x, the R5x, the T2x, T30, and all of the T4x series. Possibly more...just not the T6x series at this point.

Good info, thanks tfflivemb2.

I'm still looking for answers to these Qs if anyone knows them:

If you're looking strictly for a backup, I can sell you one that's in not quite-as-good condition (meaning screen impressions and shiny keys), maybe without a battery (or with a really crappy one). They're still 100% functional, just not in "A-" condition like the ones listed here.

Let me know if that interests you.

Yes, this interests me, thanks for mentioning the option. I sent you a PM--I couldn't find a means to email you.

Just missing the card -- the antenna is there.
