But I think the T43 takes PC-4200 and the T60 takes PC-5300

wont matter as the T43 will use the speeds it's capable of. At this point there's basically no difference in the price either.

I am not sure. ThinkPads tend to be VERY sensitive about using the memory speed it is designed for. Better off using the right memory, there is no benefit to the faster memory and there may be a down side.

PC2-5300 is backward compatible to PC2-4200.
It can benefit OP if he is planning to buy another laptop which uses the same DDR2-667 memory.

if I buy a 667 memory, I can reuse them when I update my notebook to T61 or T60

The T60 uses them but not the T61.
