I guess the warranty is expired - how far out is it? Even so, it may still be worth asking IBM/Lenovo about fixing it as there is an Engineering Change Application out on the T4x series.
Cheers

Yeah, extending the warranty to get it repaired might not be a bad idea...

Warranty expired 2005-12-08.

What's this engineering change application, and how would I go about contacting IBM/Lenovo about this?

I have a T42 but the warranty doesn't expire till 2008 so you must only have had a one year warranty on yours?

The ECA (Engineering Change Announcement) is a notice put out about possible changes/defects. It's not quite a recall but if your machine is affected by the problem in the ECA you may get it fixed for free...provided the warranty is not too much out of date. I'm not sure about the US but I simply rang up the IBM support line and first went through the warranty section who then put me in touch with the technical section. Your problem is an acknowledged issue with the T4X series so it's worth a phone call, and the long wait to get through...Not sure IBM offers a phone service in the US? If not send them an email.
Cheers

The system described above does not apply to machines sold in USA. In certain European countries, motherboards are replaced for free on T4 series even if they are out of warranty. Not here. Now this tells you what Lenovo thinks of American customers...
