Selling this laptop on eBay for a friend.
Has cracks on keyboard cover and hard drive cover, but otherwise this laptop works fine.
Due to the plastic cracks on the keyboard/hard drive cover, this auction is recommended only for those who knows how to repair laptops, or is interested in the parts / accessories like power adapters, DVD-ROM or floppy drives, Ultrabay battery, LCD screens, etc.
Keyboard is a bit dusty. Spacebar key doesn't work well.
It's a 1 day auction only, but I'll relist it again on Thursday once more if there's no interest. After that the PC will be donated.

Wow there's one bid already? A bit surprised.
Again I've to stress the fact that, in terms of cosmetic, this laptop isn't a hot deal. Just don't want to disappoint the buyer.
If you're looking for spare 2.5" IDE drives, or other accessories for a good old T23 Thinkpad, then this will be a good deal. I am a bit lazy to sell all those through seperate auction. I think it's still better than creating more electronic waste though.
If the pictures are not large enough or clear enough, may someone suggest a free picture hosting site that allows me to host high resolution pictures? Just want to let the buyers see how bad the plastic damage is.
Oh and in case no one notice, HARD DRIVES will come in blank. No Windows OS will be included. No Windows OS license (e.g. COA) will be included.
Have fun refreshing the bid page zillion times.

Hmm... tempting it is...
eBay location has you in San Jose. Would local pickup work for you? I live in Almaden, work near 237/First St.
Please also update your profile and include city/state. Posting IP says xxxx.ca.xxx.net which puts you (most likely) somewhere in the South Bay. Thanks!

@namezero:
In your auction, you write:
"Bid only if you can pay on this Friday July 13 2007. I intend to ship out the laptop and parts on Saturday July 14 2007."
The end time of the auction is July 12, 9:39 PM Pacific Daylight Time.
Can you or anyone else tell me how it's possible to pay as fast as this in the USA? The only way I could imagine is for the successful bidder to actually live next door to you and come by with cash. It wouldn't be possible to pay this fast even in the EU, where a direct account transfer takes max. 3 days. And in the States, anyone except a local bidder has no chance at all. Or was that your intent?

Not to put words into namezero's mouth, but I think the answer is "PayPal". The auction ends Thursday night. He's giving until Friday night (one day) to submit payment. PayPal is almost instantaneous. When the funds have been verified and a confirmed shipping address along with it, then it should be safe to mail the package the next morning (Saturday).Robbyrobot wrote:Can you or anyone else tell me how it's possible to pay as fast as this in the USA?
edit: @namezero Now that I've re-read both the OP and eBay auction... "Selling this laptop on ebay for a friend" (OP) and "yes I was not happy about that when I first acquired this laptop on eBay long time ago" (eBay) does not make sense on the surface. Any explanation?

"Not to put words into namezero's mouth, but I think the answer is 'PayPal'."
Still seems strange to me, Ray, since PayPal payments can be reversed, and from what I hear often are. I don't know that I'd care to take the risk as a seller.
And in any case the condition still limits the possible range of bidders pretty radically. Why reduce the number of possible buyers like that?
Naturally namezero can do what he/she likes, but it seems a pity to sell at a lower price than necessary.
Incidently, I recently experienced how much the presentation can affect the price at Ebay... bought two 256MB 100 MHz RAM modules for my new T21 for EUR 64.03 delivered. The next day, ONE identical module was sold for EUR 46.19 delivered. The difference was a sharp, detailed image of the module in the one case (high price) and a "stock" photo with the remark "appearance similar" in the second (the one I bought).

Robbyrobot, just some friendly "formatting" advice - if you're responding to part of someone's post, it's best to wrap quote tags around what you're responding to, or press the Quote button to have the tags wrapped around for you. It'll help us distinguish between what you're replying to and what your response is

Yeah I do understand it's strange.
However as mentioned in the auction listing, I'd like to ship out the package on Saturday. Therefore I prefer the payment to be received on Friday.
Yes that limits the range of bidders. However I've other things to take care and would like to finish this sale in a timely manner. I did advise my friend to handle the auction by himself, but he said it's OK even after I warned him about the price.
The only facts that might give you some confidence about this auction are:
1. I went through the trouble of taking detail pictures of all the parts, including the damage and cosmetic condition of the laptop.
2. I went through the trouble of detailing all the damages on the laptop; the fact that I helped my friend swapped the LCD (i.e. the laptop has been opened). I also mentioned about the lack of serial number in BIOS and sticker.
3. positive eBay seller rating for a 2 years old account (yes it's not that reliable nowadays)
I was looking into a 2 day auction, but eBay has only a 1 day or 3 day auction. Therefore I picked one day auction.
By the way, since I've swapped the LCD, all the plastic cover on all screws are gone. That means all screws are visible. Another point deducted on cosmetic.
rkawakami:
Acquired the laptop for myself over eBay. Found the screen resolution too low for my needs so I resell it to a friend. Time flies and this PC runs a bit slow when loading webpages full of Adobe Flash so he wants an upgrade. Since I was the initial buyer of the laptop, I was disappointed to find out that laptop doesn't have a serial number at all. No serial sticker and no serial in BIOS either.

Admittedly, I have never attempted to reverse a PayPal payment except for one time. And that was because the seller never shipped me the item after it was obvious (to me anyway) that he ALSO used shill bidding on that auction AND I had used a credit card to fund the payment. I normally use my checking account to pay for items below a certain price. My understanding, and somebody correct me if I'm wrong, is that you can't "reverse" (i.e., cancel) that kind of payment without going through the normal "item not received" process. Which takes days to eventually get the money credited back.Robbyrobot wrote:Still seems strange to me, Ray, since PayPal payments can be reversed, and from what I hear often are.
For my problem auction, I contacted both PayPal and my credit card issuer to contest the sale. About two months later, I was finally credited back my payment, minus $25.00 (which is STILL an open issue with PayPal after two years).
(Sorry for the slightly OT path here...)
