WTB: Thinkpad T42P keyboard

#1 Post by synchromesh » Thu Jul 12, 2007 12:44 pm

I managed to break the middle mouse button, the left control key refuses to work and several other keys are becoming worse and worse. So perhaps it's time for a new keyboard.

Requirements: new or near new condition (don't need very used ones, already have one). Must fit a 15in T4x series machine such as my beloved T42p. All keys and mouse must work well, no exceptions. Trackpad cap not required, I have a fairly fresh one that can be reused.

Feel free to pm me at any time. I can give you cash/paypal or can trade an IBM model M keyboard in excellent condition if you are a fan of those.

Are you looking for a specific keyboard manufacturer? Glossy top bar or matte? don't care?

I don't have one to sell, but I know people have strong preferences so I figured I'd ask. I'd give you mine for free (all keys work flawlessly) but you wouldn't want it.. it has 'shiny key' syndrome which it got within weeks of purchase, piece of crap. I need to take it out and look at what brand it is so I can remember to buy one of the others. My original keyboard never got so worn looking, even after a year of use.

Honestly speaking I don't care about the upper bar. My current one has a matte bar iirc, and I guess for sake of preserving the original I would take that if I had a choice. But if I got a good deal on a decent keyboard with glossy bar, I would definitely take it.

Yeah, fading keys suck. Some of mine faded but some still hold out well. I wonder if my keys are the same as yours. That way if I got yours, I could just replace them all.

I just ended up getting one off ebay after someone in my house with little fingers....hmmm. decided to pry off the S key. Some others were loose so I just ended up finding a dealer using google search and then their ebay page. My total shipped was about $24 and frankly, it looks brand-new to me. I have a t41p so I'm not sure if that's exactly the same...I think they had just a couple of keyboard options the other day but I'm sure their "stock" changes.

I had a "glossy" bar but this one is matte and looks just fine to me. I'm not connected with these folks in anyway but their userid is under montana4me. It was one of the best prices I could find. Maybe you'll find something even less here. :)

I have a brand new one in a sealed box left over from my R50p days... but I couldn't compete with the $24 delivered deal for the used ebay model the previous poster spoke of. If you can find one like that I say buy it! Look around, and if you think a new one is the way to go then E-MAIL me (my PM box is full) with what you feel is a fair offer. You can be sure to get exactly what I claim, unlike some of the "surprises" you might get instead on ebay! I'm not in a hurry to get rid of it. I just found it in the "room from hell" over the past day or two (it took me that long to find my way out!).

39T0643 - $49 delivered to mainland of US (any non-CC type payment) ... E-MAIL request (my PM box is full)

Best reasonable price on ebay right now is $59.99 + $8 shipping ($67.99) for a new one. Oh, there IS one for $53.99, but since that seller wants $60.99 shipping (yep, that's right!) I don't see anyone buying it. $34 (or half the best new cost) is the best price delivered for a used one right now. I came to my price of $49 delivered by adding $15 to the best used price. Fair?
