Hey!

I've been reading these forums for probably about a year now, and just recently upgraded from a T42 to a T60. I used the T42 the last year and a half in college, so I had a lot of extras for it, but I'm going to trade/sell them for the cash to get a new 3-cell Ultrabay battery for the T60. The machine itself is going to my little brother for his upcoming college experience, so let me know if anybody is interested in these parts (Which I feel fine *ahem* appropriating as he'll only be using it as a desktop...what a pity):

9-cell for T4x *SOLD*
Manufactured 9/28/05
146 cycles
68.25Wh Full Charge Capacity (Down from 77.76Wh Full Design Capacity)
*EDIT* ~$50

6-cell for T4x *SOLD*
I don't have the specs on this in front of me, but I've only used it for trips, so it almost certainly has less than 5 or 10 cycles on it. Same vintage, so expect about the same manufacture date.
*EDIT* ~$50

AC-Adapter for T4x Series *SOLD*
*EDIT* ~$20

1GB Crucial PC2700 RAM Module *SOLD*
(Brother wanted 4GB of RAM for Vista, though he doesn't listen to me when I explain Windows will only see 3GB...anybody else here have younger brothers? :D )
*EDIT* ~$60

And I may be interested in selling or trading the 6-cell battery my T60 just came with, I don't know what it's worth, so feel free to let me know. It's brand new, as I use the 9-cell batteries exclusively.

I am also interested in an Ultrabay battery for the T60, so if you are interested in a trade or sale, please let me know!

...Good to finally talk to you guys, I've been following this site for a long time!

*EDIT*I figured I should post a requested price for these items so I don't force everybody interested to waste their time just getting a price from me. I haven't researched the numbers I put up there, so if anything is unreasonable, please just let me know! Thanks! */EDIT*[/b]

Good luck on your sale. Everything appears to be reasonably priced to me.

I don't think your brother will get 4gb to work with Vista or any other operating system in the T42 though. The most I can get XP to see in my T43p is 2gb even though the BIOS sees 3gb and 4gb is actually installed.

If I am wrong, anyone, please feel free to correct me.

Thanks

umm the T4x only support a max of 2GB as far as i know so i don't even know how the BIOS is showing you 3GB? Very weird....

It is weird. There have been other threads here regarding this. I have tried many combinations of different speed DDR2 memory and capacities and the best I can do is, like you said, 2gb. The BIOS does indeed say 3gb though depending on the combination of chips and even sometimes which chip is in which slot, under the keyboard or in the one bottom slot. I wonder if another operating system would be able to use that extra gb.

Windows reports 3gb on my T60p with 2 X 2gb installed.

Thanks

I know I can't be the only one who is thinking this...

If the biggest DDR PC2700 sodimms (or PC3200 for that matter) for sale are 1GB how does your brother plan to run 4GB in a T42 :?:

And if I'm right why sell what's possibly one of the best 1GB PC2700 sodimms one can buy?

in a T43 that would be... he's using 2 2GB DDR2 chips.

I'm aware of the T43 using DDR2. I was speaking of the OP's machine (a T42) being handed down to his brother who wants "4GB".

I bought the machine with 256MB RAM knowing I'd upgrade it to 1.25GB, and that's how I ran it for the year and a half I had it. My brother is convinced he'll see a performance upgrade with 2, 2GB modules installed, and doesn't listen to anyone else when we tell him he won't even be able to *see* that much.

I remember reading around here that 32bit Windows can only address 3GB of RAM, but perhaps I read that while researching how much RAM to install in my new T60 (DDR2). It may be that, with DDR (as opposed to DDR2), he'll only be able to see 2GB, and not even 3. Either way, he's gonna end up wasting his money, so I'm just going to let him do what he wants and he'll probably end up poorer and happy. He's also a firm believer in the "matching pair" belief, and I suspect he's convinced he'll see further benefits from having two identical modules.

It's not SEEING 4GB in a T42 that's the problem... it's BUYING 2 x 2GB sodimms that's the problem! You can't buy a 2GB PC2700 or PC3200 sodimm. They don't exist in DDR. DDR2 yes, but they're not compatible.
