According to ThinkPad ComputerHardware Maintenance Manual (page 197) the 60 GB 7200 rpm harddisk in a T40p is a Hitachi with IBM P/N 13N6807. To translate this internal IBM P/N check ThinkWiki where you find that 13N6807 is equivalent to Hitachi Travelstar HTS726060M9AT00 – data for which you find here: Hitachi Travelstar 7K60

These drives (as brand new!) sell for $ 70,- (minus 5% rebate if using Google checkout) – see e.g. here

Eh, why is that rude?
He just explained why the TS asking price is way too high? (asking an price for your producht is free, but the change he will sell that at that price is not there).

In some forums, it is considered "thread crapping". I think that there is an unwritten rule here, that if you are doing this to be helpful, it is ok, but slamming someone for a listed price is wrong. Now, Johan didn't slam the seller, but he/she could have added a little "FYI" at the beginning, to make it sound a little friendly and/or helpful.

Now, having said that, yes, I think, that the price is too high...BUT, there is nothing that says that the OP can't ask for ANY amount, whether too high, or too low. If I want to list a T23 for $1500, I can most certainly do so.

First: Please (everybody!) accept my sincere apologies if I have broken some, written or unwritten, rules here - or in other way(s) have shown bad manner. None of this was of course ever my intention... what benefit would I or anybody else have by behaving impolite or even directly rude? I hope that this statement is accepted.

Next: To make it clear, my intentions were (only!) to provide more information incl. link with detailed specifications for the HDD in question, so that potential buyers would have an easy opportunity to check this - as no such information was provided by the OP. I realize that adding a small "FYI" would have set this straght.

Anyone who pays anywhere close to $200 for that HDD needs to be committed to an appropriate institution and never released...

These days you can get a 80Gb/7200 Seagate for around $80, brand new with 5 year warranty, so the price for the Hitachi HDD in OP may sound a little high, but as it's been said before, if one feels that his/hers 560Z is worth $2399 + S&H + PayPal fees, they should go for it...this is a free country...

im actually selling that hard drive for $60 local now.

but shipping is a lot more hassle, plus i want to put the drive in someones laptop and delete my personal folders before they take it.
