How much is this T42p worth?

I have a friend who has a T42p. According to him, it's practically brand new and hasn't even been used a day's worth since he bought it. Judging by all of the gizmos he owns, it's not hard to believe.
I haven't seen the laptop yet, but it is supposed to be in pristine condition. It's a 2373-HVU. The specs are:
15" UXGA
P M 745 1.8Ghz
1 Gig memory
100 GB 5400RPM
Bluetooth / 802.11abg
Warranty expiring sometime in June '08.
Port replicator included
9-Cell Battery
I'm considering purchasing it, but most likely I will help him sell it, but I don't know how much this laptop is worth.
For now, I am assuming that the condition of the laptop is how he states - "pristine".

It should bring anywhere from $700 to $850. For a machine of this nature, warranty is the key.
Let us know.

Better yet, please ask your friend what the battery's full charge capacity is.

i'll get to you on these open points.
i'm surprised that a laptop like this only commands a max price of $850. i was expecting it to be around $950, given the amount of time that remains on the warranty.

??? Only 11 months remaining on warranty ...
One could get a new T61p 5 years warranty, 2Ghz, 1GB ram, 100GB@7200 rpm, WUXGA, NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M for under $1500 after tax.
Did you mean June 09 for warranty ?

As great of a machine as T42P undoubtedly is, I doubt that you'd be able to go much higher than $850. A maxed-out T42P failed to attract more than that on this forum a couple of weeks ago, and it was 2.0 processor with 2Gb of RAM, our fellow member was looking for a $1000 and didn't get it...
If the machine was mine I'd be looking for $850-875. I've sold two on this forum with comparable specs around that price range not so long ago...and they were both extremely nice, twice-out-of-the-house-by-looks examples...
Maybe you guys should wait for the school to start, and try then. eBay, Craiglist, whatever...
Or maybe you should just snatch it for yourself and live happily ever after....
All the best.

This is not a place to sell if you want top dollar. The audience is mostly people who already have their ThinkPads, and seldom want another. If I were selling a whole machine, I'd go Craigslist then eBay.
Parts might do well here, or not, but the hassle factor here is the lowest (it's free and a great community). Craigslist: Also free, local, cash, but lots of no shows. I've had great luck on eBay, buying and selling, but much more work.
