I ordered one of these on another auction from the same seller. Shipping was fast, drive was ridiculously well-packed (full of bubble wrap in a 10" cube box) and works great.

Not too bad.. I prefer this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0132408481
But he only had the one. It's checked out fine so far with PC Doctor diags; I just need to burn a couple of disks. This seller however was open to a little negotiation:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0141092037
The first one was at the winning bid. I was offered four more for less than the $18.26 AND he combined shipping. Five drives for a total of $85.76 (do the math...).
Now, these last five haven't showed up yet so this still could go wrong but his return policy is specified...
P.S. eBay links are not prohibited but be aware that after a couple of months, these links will go dead. And that auction is a total of $28 when you include shipping.
P.P.S. Please note that my post is not meant to take the "wind out of your sails". I tend to buy multiple items and can therefore get a better price. I'm sure people other than me are getting just as good a deal, if not better. Also, it helps to know how to craft a search string on eBay to find/get the best deals. And since I hang out there about as much as I do here (read: I'm addicted), I don't think I'm missing too much

Sometimes it's just being in the right place at the right time. After losing out on this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0141425547
... I got one of the ones from the auction the OP posted.
Then I saw this close on my watch list:

Oops. Oh well.

Oops,
look who outbid you

.
You're right. It's all a matter of timing (and sniping). I'm beginning to wonder why people are not bidding up these drives from that particular seller. Other ones are going for $30 and up.

I actually noticed that after the auction closed.
I didn't really get outbid. I actually was sniping over my cell phone during a boring meeting, and the room had poor signal, so my bid didn't make it .

Would have gotten outbid anyway, though.
