Are there any thinkpad owners who got a 5 year warranty when they originally bought the laptop and now may want to sell ?
Laptop must have a SXGA+ screen or higher.
Price: around $225/year of IBM/Lenovo warranty remaining, depending on specs.

With all due respect to the most interesting equation that you've drawn in the other post, I don't think this is going to fly too well in the real world...because someone would have to be in a serious withdrawal crisis to sell you a T42/43 with 2 years warranty left for less than $500...especially given your requirement that SXGA+ screen is a minimum...

Will you be able to find it? Anything is possible. But more likely on eBay than on this forum...most people around here tend to value their machines more than average owners, and in quite a few cases have an actual relationship with their ThinkPads...that take more $$$$ to be severed...

All the best in your noble quest...

2 years warranty left for $500 -- not gonna happen, I agree. But if someone has a 2 year old T42 with 3 years warranty left, then $650 is not too unreasonable I think.
A 1 year old T60 with 4 years left ....you get the idea.

Very few people are going to have more than a 3 year warranty, because it was the base warranty at one point....but now it is 1 year.

You can buy an extra four years of warranty for your Thinkpad as long as you are under the standard one year warranty.

But, who would sell such a nice ThinkPad at that price with that much warranty left?

IMHO, anyone who dished out a nice additional sum to extend the warranty on last year's T60 would have quite a problem parting with it on your terms...

People who change machines often, don't get extended warranties. You'd have to find someone who really hates his/hers machine but didn't realize that immediately...and the odds for something like that happening and you actually bumping into that someone are quite low indeed...at least from where I stand from.

But stranger things have happened.

As of right now, this is one of my favourite topics to watch... :D

Interesting equation! But it means paying $1000 for a T61 with a 5-yr warranty?

With a few stacked discounts pretty much publicly available, you can buy that new for $900 or less in the U.S. But it's a widescreen, ugh!

The equation also implies a one-year-old T60 with 1-yr warranty is now worth $zero. ouch!

Yup. At least $1000.

I have tried, and failed.
Remember I require at least SXGA+, and a 5 year warranty.
Cheapest I could configure was ~$1250 I think after coupon, fatcash, SPP, and tailormade ( and a CA $100 tax :()

I should have been more specific in that the equation only applies to laptops bought with a 5 year warranty.

So for all you resellers, do your customers place value on warranty ? In that say you buy a laptop now, with intent to sell it used in just before 3 years. You also have the option of uograding the warranty to 5 years when buying it now for another $180.
Would you recover the $180 (and more) when you sell it down the road ?

Have any of you priced a 4 year warranty extension? It would be approaching a $500.00 price tag.
I just bought 1 year Depot warranty extension for an R51 and it was almost $175.00. 1 year on-site was $275.00, 2 year Depot was $300.00 and 2 years on-site was almost $400.00.

I believe it can be had for much cheaper if being bought together with the laptop.
For the T61P, it cost ~$245 (5 year depot)
(actually a bit less, since that warranty is what was taking the cart beyond $1600 to take advantage of the tallormade 10% braket)
With a 3 year warranty($85), final cost was about $1375
With a 5 year, it came out around $1485
