I decided to sell. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be buying a car in the next few weeks so I could use some money. I'm hoping I can get $300 for it. I put it on eBay since so many people here already have Thinkpads.

You should be able to get that. I've sold a comparable machine for $350 about 2 months ago.

BTW how can people scam you if they already paid and the money is in your Paypal account? By using a stolen credit card?

I've already got 3 "questions" from spammers. Can I report them to eBay or something?

Sure you can report them. There should be a link for that in the bottom of the page (RH side if I'm not mistaken) when eBay sends the message to your e-mail box...

I was not only referring to animals using stolen credit cards, but to those placing unbelievably high bids and ruining the auction...I've had an %^*&@! place a bid of $ 6,666 on the 570E I've been selling at the time, but I sort of sniffed the rat and canceled the bid...which at that point was something like $190 showing...which I felt was way too high for a 570E, even from someone who is clueless...

Watch your auction like a hawk and you'll be OK.

Unfortunately, that appears quite easy to do - the payment is simply reversed. The German computer magazine c't recently had an article about how sellers were scammed and then ignored by PayPal when they wanted to complain. PayPal does not have a good reputation in Germany, and since (fast!) direct account transfers are the payment method of choice here, is also not necessary.

I got an interesting question today, somebody wants to pick it up, and pay in cash. Not sure about that.

Your machine, your call. I've sold hundreds of ThinkPads and have never allowed local pickup.

i've sold many things (although no thinkpads), and the only thing i've allowed to be picked up is a car... that's also the only thing i took cash for, and i got his driver's license number... too many fake 100's floating around out there...

Yeah, that's what I'm concerned about. I think I'll allow pickup, but not cash. There is an advantage since the buyer doesn't have to pay shipping. I know I bid more if I can pick up the item.

No PayPal on pickup, though...

Couldn't you pay through paypal then come and pick up the next day? Or even pay through paypal while picking up, on wireless or something.

For a tangible item, PayPal requires shipping to a confirmed address...so I could pick up the laptop, go home, file a claim and get my money back...

It depends. Last time I shipped a laptop from Ontario to British Columbia and it cost $58. That's because UPS charged me a lot of money to pack the [censored] thing because I was too lazy to do it myself.

Also, why are you concerned with shipping cost? You're gonna adjust your bidding accordingly. If anything, I'm losing profit since I'm shipping it with an expensive service.

BTW eBay removed the item. I wasn't home so I didn't see what happened. Maybe people made fake bids.

I was watching it and I was thinking about bidding on it. I even asked you a question and you responded.

Someone must have been bidding on your machine with a hacked account, the account owner figured it out and reported it...end of story...

BTW, you may want to use Canada Post instead of UPS in the future when shipping to USA...far cheaper for everyone.

Well, sure I do, as most other ebuyers do. But there are still many sellers out there who try to make some extra bucks from people not paying attention to S&H, and I don't like that policy at all.

But, as I said, I don't want to question your integrity or anything; I simply didn't see the Canada tag at first.

Canadapost is way cheaper.
I live in St John's,Newfoundland Canada.And i have shipped a Thinkpad to CA in the USA for about $26.00cdn with 200.00inc.
And if you look up where St John's is to in Canada,you will see we are far away,cant get much father away.
