My Beautiful A31p has to be sold (Sob!)

#1 Post by olex126 » Fri Aug 10, 2007 11:46 am

Hi Group.

I have to sell my A31p that I purchased from Steven only a couple of months ago from this forum. We had a heck of a time with the logistics of getting all the new IBM parts here, but eventually they made it and everything was installed. Almost a brand new machine!

I'm back on the road for 3-4 days a week, and the A31p is ten times as awkward to handle in the cab as my X31.

If anyone's interested in an "as-new" high-end A31p, here's the link:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... 0140551491

I was SO looking forward to using this beautiful machine, but alas, sometimes life just throws a few curves at you now and then.

Thanks for looking. Contact if interested.

Regards. Dave.

Hi Dave,

Great machine, nice goodies. I want it... Would you considder shipping this beauty to Holland? You only ship to CONUS'nCAN on Ebay, but perhaps you'd stretch that a bit for forum members?

Cheers,

Arthur

A31p was my 1st Thinkpad machine and I still regret giving it away. This is a beauty for any Thinkpad fan who haven't had hands on A31p yet.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

"What a beautiful machine!"

Thanks gator. The Flexview screen is just beautiful. Believe me, if I could use this one, or the other A31p I've got on eBay, on a day-to-day basis, I would never consider parting with them.

As it is, the X31 works very much more comfortably for me, and I already use three desktop machines at home, so the A31's are (sad to say) redundant. And as beautiful as the Thinkpad screens are, they can't offer the same real estate as compared to 2 Viewsonic 20" LCD's and a 21" Viewsonic Graphics Monitor.

Still, I'll shed a tear when the postman takes them away!

I'm sorry, but I can't add this one to my A31P collection... :D just in case anyone was wondering why I was keeping silent.

That being said, this is a known great machine that almost ended up being my "main" rig a couple of months ago. If you want a loaded and gorgeous A31P (with a bunch of stuff on the side) that has the potential of lasting at least another 5-6 years as a desktop replacement, you should be PM-ing the owner right now.

I'm sure that some smartypants will say that this is an awful lot of money for a machine this old. Well, I've just sold one of mine with comparable specs and in mint shape for $600 2 weeks ago and I didn't have any of the extras included here, such as batteries.

Bump for a great machine.

"I'm sure that some smartypants will say that this is an awful lot of money for a machine this old."

Thanks ajkula66. I thought it was a lot of money too, until I costed everything that's included... Even at $725, I think I'm still out the $55.00 GST/Import Duties/Taxes on the whole outfit when I bought it from Steve, let alone making a profit. But I feel it is a fair price, considering the goodies that go with it. Top quality oats, as they say...

A few years from now I think this will still be running very well... I daresay it will still be 'puting long after some of the new shiny stuff has been relegated to a corner.

I've tried to convince my wife to use it, but she steadfastly refuses to give up her A22m ( I was going to say she has no taste, but Hey: 1. she uses a Thinkpad, and 2. she married me 29 years ago. What else is there to say!)

Dave.

P.S. Like your sig.. I'm a BIG Neil Young fan, as well as the rest of the CSN bunch.

Well, this one has a good screen, so maybe not.

That is a very beautiful machine. Just FYI, one of the pictures on your eBay listing has a very clear serial number showing.

olex126, can you please tell me where to get the background picture in your A31p in the following listing?

Or can you upload it to somewhere?

I really like it! I can't help getting it for my thinkpad.

Let me know if the link works. I'm only allowed to post 1024 x768 on the photobucket site... if you require 1600 x 1200, I'll have to send it by email to you, assuming your inbox will accept a 5.5 Mb file..
