What is my R40 worth?

I'm thinking about upgrading to an R50 or T42 and was wondering what I might expect to get for my R40.

Type: 2897-B4U

- Pentium-M "Banias" 1.5 Ghz
- 15" XGA screen
- 1.5 GB RAM
- new (<3 months old) Seagate 80GB 5400 RPM 8MB HDD
- DVD-ROM / CD-RW
- Intel 2200BG wireless card

As you can see I've done some upgrading to it, so how much do you guys think this is worth?

Personally, I'd take out the 1Gb chip and HDD, then replace the HDD with the smaller one and get around $300-350 for it.

FYI, I've sold an almost identical basic machine (1.5/512/40+combo) for $350 about 2 months ago on eBay. It was mint, though.

If you try-my opinion only-to sell it with upgrades that you've made, you'll have a tough time breaking the psychological barrier that most buyers have when it comes to R series, because you might be threading in the price range of T41/42.

My way, you should walk away with around 350-375, and save the HDD for your new machine.

Good luck with the sale.

George is right, times are tough on the used market. T4x's are frequently selling in the $300 to $350 range now. The Banias R40's are nice machines, take what you can get, eBay may be the best bet.
