Nothing beats a maxed ThinkPad...

Rumour has it that upgrading a CPU is easy.
I'm certain getting a faster CPU is step 1, I'm open for suggestions on steps 2, 3, etc

I'm looking for a fsb 400 processor to replace the 1.7 GHz CPU in my -not even in transit yet- R50p.
The CPU typenrs that I am interested in are:
  • SL7EQ (1.8 GHz)
    SL7EN (1.8 GHz)
    SL7EM (2.0 GHz)
    SL7V3 (2.1 GHz)
The CPU you offer should be a B-stepping model.

Any upgrade goodies you have lying around from the last project are welcome as well, I prefer your experience over my lucky guesswork.

Thanks,

Arthur

Are you sure that SL7EL and SL7UZ are what you need?

Thanks for the warning!
I thought the EQ, EL and UZ versions were just the tray type#, versus the boxed# EN, EM and V3.
It would seem that the EL and UZ CPUs are actually quite rare, so I decided not to risk it with those.
If a 1.8 GHz EQ pops up, I'll see if I am willing to risk that (since they're a lot cheaper, I might).
Although I don't quite understand the difference.
I thought Intel renamed these 478 pin CPUs to socket 479 because there already was a socket 478 desktop version of the P4.
They somehow missed the objective if they wanted to avoid people getting confused.
I'm more than happy to get it all explained once and for all....

Cheers,

Arthur
