i would like to try the same in the UK.
so far I restored 4 motherboards - all working perfectly well now.

So if you have a T4x laptop with the above problem - - when it stops working when moved even slightly - contact me on kvlebedev@gmail.com
I should be able to repair it for you.
UK only.
Hope to hear from you.
Konstantin.

Just got back my A31p from James with a new backlight and I wanted to give my highest recommendations for the job he did. Very bright and I would never be able to tell that he had the thing apart. Also, the prepaid shipping both ways with the padded box was a great service and made the whole thing hassle free. Thanks for extending the life of my Thinkpad!

Another A31p refreshed by James here...yum yum yum... :)

Falling in love with it all over again...thank you, sir!

I just changed out my CCFL tubes in both my A31s and it was well worth the 2 hours of my time. I think the screens are brighter than they were brand new. This is a worthwhile upgrade to anyone with a decent older Thinkpad especially the IPS models. Mine are not IPS and it was still worth it to me. I want to thanks James for bringing this possibility to my attention (I didn't even know how LCDs worked before this thread), and for helping me find the parts.

Any chance to do this GPU rework in the UK? Do you know some company/individual that could help me?

You also/already asked exactly the same question in the thread GPU rework in the UK in the T4x sub-forum, and you received a reply there (actually pointing to this very same page that you are looking at now!).

Please do not post the same question multiple places - it makes it hard for those wanting to help to follow your progress... (!).

I just changed the CCFL tube in an A31P and the difference is huge. Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread. If you do not have the time or skills (mechanical aptitude, patience, good eye sight etc) then talk to James. $150 sounds like a fair price and it includes a warranty.

Are you still doing GPU work? Your web site shows that this is temporarily unavailable. It'd be on a T42.

Thanks,

-Ted

James -
Re: reballing GPU.

What's your take on the T43 (& late T42) units where the ATI chip is tacked down at the factory with epoxy at the corners?

Can you fix these?

Although these don't fail nearly as often as the earlier motherboards, I've still had to fix a few. The epoxy isn't any problem, it comes off pretty easily when the board is heated.

Hi James,

I received my T42p yesterday. Great work, and thanks for having the patience going through the hassle of sending it to Finland :)

Much appreciated!

I'm a customer just popping in to highly recommend this service! James revived a dim R50p screen, and it was obvious that he worked carefully to get the job done right.

@ James, Have you considered to offer the service for polarizer replacement? That is another service with increasing demand.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad to hear that the R50p's still working well.

I actually haven't thought about it. Do you know of a place that sells new polarizers? I'd definitely consider it, the main question would be how much the polarizers would cost.

There is a site LCD parts:

... and one in Europe too --> TDComponents offering the Vikuiti films by 3M. I have no idea of how good (or bad?) these films are, and what they cost? Google...!

PS: It seems that gator has tried this 3M-film; see the thread Matte (yes!) LCD protection films from 3M.

I registered on these forums (finally) just to give this thread a bump. It's been hard to find anyone who can do CCFL replacement and general repairs right, let alone for such a good price. To all of you lurkers out there who aren't sure if you want to send your laptop to someone over the internet, I was in your position a couple of weeks ago and I'm glad I had James repair my T60p.

Nice to see you on the boards, Ivan. I appreciate the feedback!

@cmarti
About the polarizers, it seems that those products are meant to be applied on top of the existing layers of the screen. Is this what you meant, or were you talking about removing and replacing an existing layer?

Hello jamiphar,

I have
- several (I think 5) redish uxga displays (lcds only) for A31P, I should like to see repaired (as spare parts for our A31P's, the rest for resale), and
- I have two A31P systemboards that are reported by pc-doctor to have graphics problems (one graphics, one graphics and graphics-memory problems), and
- last but not least I have one board, where I have - lifting the security chip - reduced the board to beeping the problem.

Your prices are indicated on the website. Do You have any indication for the additional shipping costs?
Would You accept bare LCDs (UXGA/1600x1200, IPS) sent to You, as You - may be - have a A31P-Body to test them?
Would You accept bare LCDs, if accompanied by a bare A31P Body with a functional Board plus lcd-kabel?
Would You accept to repair A31P systemboards, if accompanied by a bare body, so You'ld eventually be able to test, using an external display?
Would You be able to and accept reviving the "tampered" board?

Is bundling possible?

Thanks in advance for taking the trouble looking at my questions...

PM sent, Friedrich!

As some of you might know, January 24th marked the one-year birthday of Arndt Computer Services. Our first year was exciting and very educational and we've been learning what it actually takes to run a successful business. I'm extremely happy with how many improvements we've been able to make to the entire workflow, though I'm sure there will be plenty more in the future!

As a special thanks to all our past, current, and future customers, we're taking 10% off the price of any repair! This discount will apply to any work order submitted from Jan. 26th to Feb. 2nd. The work order form can be found here: http://arndtcomputer.com/form.php.

As always, feel free to e-mail me directly at james@arndtcomputer.com.

Thanks for a great year!

Congratulations on a successful first year! I was one of your early customers with a R50p screen renewal. That machine is still bright and happy and is about to get Ubuntu installed on it.

Keep up the great work!
