Up for sale is an IBM Thinkpad T23 (model 2647-4MU) laptop. At just over 5 lbs (5.13 lbs to be exact), it’s fairly easy to carry around. It’s in perfect working condition, and fairly good cosmetic condition (I'd say 7 out of 10). This machine was made in 2002, but because I’ve upgraded it with a 60GB 7200rpm hard drive (the highest laptop hard drive speed currently available), it outperforms many much newer laptops. The display is crisp and bright, and the display hinges are very tight. The original Classic Dome Trackpoint has been replaced with a brandnew Soft Dome. Here are the detailed specs:

1.13GHz Pentium III-M 1.13GHz with 512KB L2 cache

256MB (2x128MB) PC133 RAM (can be upgraded to 1GB)

60GB 7200rpm hard drive

14.1” 1024x768 display

DVD-ROM drive (reads DVDs and CDs)

100Mbps Ethernet

56kbps Modem

Two USB1.1 ports

Two PCMCIA slots

External monitor, headphone, microphone, parallel, serial and mouse ports

TV out

Li-Ion battery (excellent condition with 31.32 Wh full charge capacity)

Windows 2000 Certificate of Authenticity sticker on the laptop’s bottom

Windows 2000 installation CD

Windows 2000 with all updates installed

AC adapter (16V 3.36A, doesn't get very warm so it seems safe)

There are several cosmetic blemishes: The keyboard has some shine and parts of the letters “A”, “E”, “S” and “C” have disappeared. The display lid has some scuff marks. The display has some minor scuff marks, and several spots ~1 cm in diameter each that are slightly brighter than the rest of the display. The keyboard bezel has two cracks that have been repaired with super glue.

$170 shipped, or $155 if you pick up locally.

I can add a PCMCIA wireless G card for $20 extra.

Is it faster than a 7K200, or am I misunderstanding here?

I really meant that 7200rpm was the fastest (compared to 5400rpm and 4200rpm). To make this clear, I've edited the original post.

BTW, if you have a T23 that can use the SATA 7K200 drive, I'd like to buy it from you.

Ok, final question. Maybe I missed it. Why are you selling it? Too many in the barn.............

Thanks,
Ron

I had an extra 60GB 7200rpm hard drive, which for some reason was very hard to sell locally (everyone in my town is cheap). I figured it would be easier to sell it if it's included in a cheap laptop, i.e. this T23. With this HDD, this T23 feels really fast.

Just three months ago I didn't have a single 7200rpm laptop drive. Now, each of my Thinkpads has one and I even have a surplus.
