Up for sale is an IBM Thinkpad T21 laptop. With an SXGA+ screen and a 5400rpm hard drive, it was one of the most powerful T21 models. Its cosmetic condition is pretty good, about 8 out of 10. Functionally, it is excellent. Here are the specs:

If you want a better battery, I can throw in a much better one for $20 extra. Statistics: 30.59 Wh (79% of design capacity), 58 cycles, first used in Feb 2004

There are only four known issues with this laptop. 1) A supervisor password was enabled by the previous owner, so some features in the BIOS can't be accessed, but most settings can still be changed; 2) The display is bright and looks almost new, except that it has two dead pixels that appear red against a black background; 3) There is a 6-mm crack in the keyboard bezel near the Right Arrow key; 4) The IBM logo on the display lid has been removed.

I can recommend Kwoon highly.... If I didn't have my T23 as my travel laptop, I'd be all over this...

What significant settings cannot be changed in the bios. For instance, can the boot order be changed so that can boot from cd to install winxp?

Is there any way around the supervisor password? Guess not since you've selling it that way.

If I am not mistaken, the boot order cannot be changedm because it will not allow you into the BIOS to change it...if it was like the T30 that I had at one point.

As far as ways around the supervisor password...per forum rules, we cannot discuss ways of circumventing passwords, specifically supervisor passwords.

I'd tend to agree with that statement. However, if the BIOS was locked with default settings, shouldn't it start booting from the CD once the HDD was seen as blank...? This would be in the case of a clean, from-the-scratch, install...

Even if I'm wrong, you may be able to load the OS on a similar machine, plug the drive in, and download any additional drivers needed...

Anyway, it doesn't seem like that much of a big deal to me...I've used machines with passworded BIOS with no issues, or with any desire to remove it...but that's me...to each his own

Actually, it can be changed by pressing "F12" to temporarily choose a different booting device.

BUT, this discussion is now moot because I did something stupid. I thought I could clear the supervisor password (SVP) simply by removing the CMOS battery for while. But after reconnecting the CMOS battery and restarting the machine, it now asks for the SVP and won't let me continue booting unless I provide the correct SVP. So, this machine can't even get into Windows any more!

Of course we can't discuss how to clear the SVP on this forum. So, if anyone is kind enough to tell me how, please PM me! Otherwise, I would need to part out this laptop!

PW, I think this happened because the time got reset, and you need to access the BIOS to set time and date.

Thanks everyone for PM'ing me about ways to reset the BIOS password. Looks like there is really only one way, and it's not easy. I am struggling whether or not to try it, or just sell the laptop to a friend to let him try it.
