I need a cheap 16-bit PCMCIA ethernet card (dongle/no dongle either is OK) for a 380ED. If anyone has one you can spare, please PM me soon.

Sri,

How can one tell whether it's a 16-bit?

Sorry for sounding dumb...

A 16-bit PCMCIA card will not have a gold-colored strip along the top edge near the pin holes (on the side with the top-facing label), while the 32-bit CardBus card will have such a gold strip. Also, CardBus cards are keyed slightly differently at the end than PCMCIA cards are.

Look at the picture on this Wikipedia page. The Xircom card is CardBus (32-bit), while the 3Com is not (16-bit).

Hope this helps,

-- Nathan

Nathan (as usual) is absolutely right. CardBus PC Cards (32 bit) have an extra metal grounding strip on top of the cards right over the connector. 16-bit PC Cards do not have this connector. Also, currently, all CardBus PC Cards run at 3.3V and 16-bit PC Cards operate at 3.3V and/or 5.0V.

Harry, I replied to your PM.

Still looking!
