Hi all,

Looking for an 850Mhz MMC-2 P-III for my 600X 650MHZ. Anyone have one or some good leads?

Not the easiest item to find, I looked around for a couple of weeks and finally found one on EBay U.K for USD48.50 shipped to Canada
(10 days ago).

Is MMC-2 a package type? Is it different from Socket370?

I have one that I pulled from my T21, let me know if you're interested.

I'm pretty sure that the T21 takes a different PIII modulle than the MMC-2 module required in the 600X. I'm pretty sure that there were no Thinkpads ever released that shipped with a PIII 850MHz in the MMC-2 form factor. There was a Dell Inspiron of some sort that did and maybe a Sony Vaio as well, but no Thinkpads that I know of. All the PIII 850MHz Thinkpads use some other kind of socketed CPU I think.

I thought that too after I responded to Poky. My T22 isn't an MMC-2. It would be great if the 600 series took the T series CPUs. I'm tempted to call it a socket 370 but I'm not that sure.

Yes the MMC-2 has a small circuit board and a connector on one end plus external cache. Similar to the difference between a Slot 1 Pentium 3 and a Socket 370. There is also an MMC-1 which is Pentium 2 and used on all the 600s and some of the 600Es. The MMC-1 has two connectors. To confuse thing even more there is a mini-cartridge Pentium 2 used on the 560Z Thinkpads. Geesh, it's late I shouldn't even be typing I've been driving half the night.
