T42P has a 8 disc recovery set ? I just created a recovery set from my T42, and it only gave out 7 discs

The OP has the original Recovery and Restore Disk set from IBM...you have the homemade Rescue Disk set. I believe the created set is missing the Thinkvantage CD.

The 8th disk is the rescue and recovery disk.

Absolutely. I have the same set; there are seven recovery discs and one Rescue and Recovery disc.
