SOLD: Thinkpad T41 with charging issues + Extras

#1 Post by TPLIX » Thu Sep 27, 2007 1:17 pm

For sale is the Thinkpad T41 Model: 2379-DJU

This particular model has the:

P M 1.6GHz, 512MB RAM 2700
40GB 5400rpm HDD
14.1 SXGA+(1400X1050) TFT LCD
32MB ATI Radeon 9000
16x10x24x/8x CD-RW/DVD,
Intel 802.11b wireless(MPCI)
Modem(CDC)
1Gb Ethernet(LOM)
UltraNav
Secure Chip(TCPA)
6 cell Li-Ion battery

There is a COA. However, a different genuine version of XP2 is installed. I've upgraded all the drivers including the BIOS. Please let me know if you want me to reformat.

I've bought the laptop through a seller for college. Reasons being: its reputation, build quality and as a nostalgic throwback to when I used a MMX 600series years ago. I no longer need the laptop because it occupies too much of my time. At this point, the desktop suits me well.

The exterior parts are in great condition:
No scratches
The screen is clear, no dead pixels
The lid opens and closes smoothly
All stickers, pads, and screws are intact.

Battery 6cell stats:
Sanyo. MD: 2005-05-31 First used: 2005-06
39.29Wh/47.52Wh (82.6%), Cycle count: 5-Green

Please read***:
These are the issues that I am experiencing:

There seems to be an issue with the charging mechanism. At times, when the adapter is connected while the laptop is on, a high pitch noise is heard from the charging port. The noise eventually subsides and the screen illuminates (to a slightly dimmer screen and back) numerous times followed by two fast beeps (when the volume is on). The illumination is the result of the charger switching from battery to power mode and vice versa. This randomly occurs.

With the battery out, the screen may go through the same beeping and illumination.

When the battery is fully charged and the adapter is connected, the illumination and beeping may randomly occur.

There are no issues when the thinkpad is running on battery.
If the adapter is connected with the thinkpad off(rather than connecting it on) or in restart, the issues will not occur. They may reappear when the battery is fully charged.

Although a battery icon may appear towards the end of the battery charge, it does not mean that it is not charging.

I do remember hearing the harddrive clicking one time. This does not happen frequently. http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_w ... e_clicking

In addition, I will also add in at no additional cost(on request):
Ultrabay battery
Port Replicator II (with adapter)
Dead 6 cell battery

The ultrabay battery has 278 cycles - yellow 9.30Wh/23.76Wh (39.14% remaining).

In total, the package includes:
Thinkpad T41 (2379-DJU) with adapter + excellent 6 cell
All Documentation (with extra red caps) minus COA CD, minus recovery disks.
Genuine Thinkpad Port Replicator II with adapter (on request)
Ultrabay Battery (on request)
Dead 6 Cell Battery (on request)
No Warranty
No original XP CD
All batteries will be sent with a 50% discharge for shipping reasons.

Asking price: $290 shipped. All negotiations are open. The shipment will be USPS Priority with insurance. Paypal and USPS MO are accepted. Please call, PM, or email me if you have questions.

Does the charging issue happen while in the dock as well?
