FS: T42p 2ghz Dothan/1GB Ram/100GB 7200 HD/DVD-RW/BWIFI

#1 Post by T23_Owner » Thu Oct 18, 2007 12:33 am

Well I held on to it as long as I could. Decided to bump up to a T61 15.4" so I am selling my Trusty T42p. Here are the specs:

T42p - 2373-KTU
- 2ghz Dothan Pentium M 2mb Cache
- 14.1" SXGA+ 1400x1050 screen perfect
- 1gb ram at 2x512mb dimms
- 100gb 7200rpm HD
- DVD-RW burner
- Bluetooth
- WIFI ABG Atheros
- 128mb FireGL Video
- 2 batteries. 9 Cell and 6 cell batteries. Hold good charge.
- 5yr extended warranty good for 2 more yrs exactly. (Just purchased the extended 2yr)

Comes in the original box.

I have had this since new and only thing that ever happened to it was the top case got scratched and the keyboard got a little worn. Also the LCD screen was getting a little dim but IBM has replaced all those parts with new ones so this is like a perfectly brand new computer. I just had all the parts replaced so it looks brand new.

You can't go wrong with this system. Never had a problem, super quiet never gets hot. Great computer.

TERMS

I only ship in USA and only take PAYPAL payment with confirmed shipping address.

$1100 takes it shipped. The warranty alone cost me $200 a few days ago. I was going to keep it but just got a super deal on some 250gb sata drives and they won't work in this unit so I sprung for a T61.

You will not find a nicer T42p anywhere.

Thanks.

I think your price is a little optimistic to be honest, given the price of T60 and T61 sometimes can weigh in at less than what you are asking for.

Not when you consider its basically a new thinkpad for $900. The $200 warranty is worth it. Plus rerfurb T42s on ebay are easily sold for $850 to $1000.

Hmmm...having had a machine like this, I'll say that these are very fine ThinkPads.

I'll also second that 2 years warranty left is definitely worth $200.

What I'm not going to agree on is the price range for refurbished T42p machines. Once in a blue, you'll see one actually sell in that price range. But most of them sell well below $700, and quite a few of them have warranty left, enabling one to pretty much replicate what the OP has done before the warranty expires.

That being said, the fact that OP is the original owner can likely boost the price by a small margin.

Of course, this is just my $0.02. I'd love to see this machine go anywhere near current asking price, for the sake of my own selfishness...I hate the recent nosedive that T4 series have taken pricewise.

On an extremely practical note, you may want to add your location, and links to some pictures to enhance the possibility of a sale on this forum.

Good luck.

I agree with Akjula66 the pricing.. T42Ps have been running in the 700 to 900 range, in fact I bought my T42p from Akjula66 for $850 with warranty..this is with a 15" UXGA 1600x1200, everything else you list but no harddrive and 1 battery.

I do agree that the 2 year warranty is worth about 150+ so it may be in the ballpark but still on the high side.

Just purchased this same model, KTU off of eBay.

The machine is mint, with over a year warranty left.

I paid $640 shipped.

Price reduced to $695 but I had to get a refund on the warranty so it doesn't have one now. Good price on a great machine.

As a seller, I generally hate it when people make comments about the pricing unless the seller is asking.

The T42p w/2 year warranty is a special model and someone may have paid close to the original - who knows?

Perhaps in the future, a nice friendly PM would have been better, no?

Just my three cents.

Please conduct all pricing discussions via PMs.

T23_Owner, you need to post your location in your profile ASAP.

To cj3209 and gator:

You guys are absolutely right, but all of the pricing discussion had taken place long before the new rules have been implemented, just look at the dates...

Too bad that the warranty is no longer in effect, that has been one of the things that were making this offer very special-the other one being the fact that OP is the original owner.

Once again, the best of luck with the sale...

I thought that the dialog about pricing was valueable, interesting, and most importantly, accurate.

Still needs to be done via PM, however. You wouldn't want someone crapping all over one of your FS threads, would you?
