WTB's: really cheap Thinkpad...

#1 Post by ranchmom5 » Fri Oct 26, 2007 12:17 pm

I brought one R50 into the house and now the whole family is addicted to Thinkpads! :)

I was on the forum briefly last night and saw the A22 for sale. I PM'd the seller but guess I wasn't quick enough because when I got on this morning to see his response, I saw it was sold.

Anyway, my 12yo daughter got so excited when I told her this morning about the possibilities of this A22. She is ready to use some of her 4H sheep money to buy herself an older TP.

Her needs:

Basic wordprocessing
Wireless (doesn't have to be built in, could use external)
DVD ROM

We homeschool and she uses a CD program for math, a DVD program for sign language, word processor for papers and an internet program for vocabulary.

So...if anyone has something similar to the A22 that was offered (in great shape), please let me know.

With those needs, you might consider a 600X too. They're built like tanks, and I think the 13.3" screen is a real sweet spot.

This T21 would be perfect for her.

That's too bad. That A22m would have been perfect for your daughter. I think the A2* series gives you the most bang for the buck. The 600X usually costs about the same amount of money but is slightly less powerful, whereas the T2* has comparable performance but is usually more expensive.

Just throwing something out here, if you can spring for a bit more money, you could get a A31/T30/T40/R50.
Sure a very basic computer will satisfy your daughters needs now, but with a little bit more investemnt, it could see her through another 3-4 years. Not to mention, it will be faster, have a dvd drive, built in wireless, larger hard drive...

If you don't mind going really cheap, here's the T21 I'm selling.

I agree with "Theborg". If you get the older, older models you will want to upgrade things and it gets a bit expensive doing that. Memory prices for the A22m hit around $55 a stick and they aren't easy to find.
As a test, think about some of the things you would want, (more memory, wireless card, etc.) price them out and then compare the actual costs of an $80 A22m plus upgrades and you will find you could have gotten an A31, or T40 with all that you wanted but out all the hassles.
T500(daughter), X301 (wife's), X200 (all mine's)
