Up for sale is a ThinkPad T42p with the following details:

Type: 2373-HTU
Warranty: EZServ 2008-12-12
Battery cycle count: 53 count

Original description: P M 745, 1GB RAM, 60GB 7200rpm HDD, 15 UXGA(1600x1200) TFT LCD, 128MB ATI FireGL T2, CD-RW/DVD-R Multi-Burner(slim), Intel 802.11b wireless(MPCI), Bluetooth/Modem(CDC), 1Gb Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Secure Chip, 9 cell Li-Ion battery, WinXP Pro

RAM has been upgraded to 2GB (2x1GB).

Condition: There is some shine on the space bar and some of the keys. The top and bottom lids look virtually new. 15" UXGA LCD looks bright and crisp.

I think that's because most people here already have too many laptops! This is indeed a great deal. The two sticks of 1GB PC2700 SODIMMs alone are worth $120, and the warranty another $100. $580 for the rest of the machine is a steal.

It is an appropriate price. The problem is, prices are way down on new machines, and it is possible to get a brand new T60 with a hi res LCD for under $800, and used high end T60's with everything (wifi g, BT, WWAN) for not too much more. Makes it difficult for the sellers, especially when the machines are really prime, as this one is.

I think I agree with all of the above. Its partially the upcoming holiday season, most people already saturated with laptops and then the newer machines with comparable specs (all things considered) have been selling for excellent prices.

I am also an enjoying resolution addict. Having said that, 15" Flexview UXGA is still some what of a novelty in laptops. After using a 15" UXGA (T43p) for the last almost 3 years I can't make myself to use a SXGA+ anymore. I am going to lose the work T43p in the next few weeks but will probably have it replaced with a UXGA T60p. In the last few weeks I tried using T60 2007-66U as a personal machine but even the brighter SXGA+ on the T60 wasn't up to the par with these UXGA displays. I may keep one of the T43p's that I have for sale here just for the UXGA.

Have you considered a WUXGA T61P/Dell D830 ?
The WUXGA screens are much better than the thinkpad SXGA+ ones, though still inferior to the flexview ones. I'd rate flexview 10, wuxga 8 and sxga+ 4

Actually I have seen the WUXGA on a T61p and found it to be very crisp but somehow the brightness/colors were not as pleasant on the eyes as a Flexview display is. It also had similar viewing angle problems that of SXGA+ and strain on the eyes.
