I'm looking for a T42p, in excellent condition, with the 15" (1600x1200) Flexview screen. I am looking for a machine with around a year of warranty remaining. I am not particularly concerned about the other specs (processor, memory, fingerprint, bluetooth, etc, etc), as long as it is not missing anything that it is supposed to have.
I will consider a similar machine with less or no warranty remaining, as long as the price reflects this.
I am not at all interested in 14" screens or machines that need work.
If you have something to offer, please PM with machine type (2373-XXX), serial number, and description of the condition. Thanks.

IBM has some for sale on their refurb site: (2373-C96)

Given the age of the T42 line, I think it will be very hard to find one with warrenty still attached.

Thanks...I am aware of the IBM ones and that is an option- but I feel that they are a little overpriced, or priced to reflect the 2.05ghz, 2gig ram and fingerprint reader that I don't care about.
Out-of-warranty or short-warranty HTU machines are trading $500-$650 on E-bay. If I am going to pay a premium over that I more warranty. I was working a deal for one here with a year left, but that fell through (seller backed out). Hopefully another one will pop up.
Thanks.

I have a T42p and yes the warranty on these has expired. I have added one year more for $160 or so, but I don´t know how frequent do people extend their original warranty.
Try also at your local www.craigslist.org!
It is rather sad the scarcity of these T42p with Flexview since for most people there is no need to upgrade. It is easier T43

X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)

As you know your price range, I recommend you place this in your original ad to then quickly identify interested sellers.mbarker wrote: Out-of-warranty or short-warranty HTU machines are trading $500-$650 on E-bay. If I am going to pay a premium over that I more warranty.

if you offered the asking price or more the seller should have made a deal..mbarker wrote:Yes. Apparently we couldn't reach a deal, even though I offered (a few days ago) more than the current asking price.
its not fair to offer and then withdraw..
also, when seeking, a firm price should be offered or at least a range..
in these cases $500 to $650 seems about right for a T42p UXGA..
if i had ANY need i would grab one of those..
it was a superior thinkpad, IMO..
so, SELLERS, set a price and be ready to negotiate via PM's..
and you buyers, don't be such bottom fishers..
make a fair offer and be ready to complete a deal..
negotiations should be by PM, not in the thread..
and lets not nit-pick paypals fees..
i don't like paying their fee but they are entitled to make a profit on their investment..
asking for a 2.9% to cover, while against paypal rules (and all CC issuers rules) is done all the time..
it's none of my business..
it ism only the business of seller and buyer..
so, relax, cool your jets and enjoy the forum..

I should clarify. The seller did not "withdraw" or do anything wrong in my opinion. I offered slightly more than the current figure, but my offer was a fixed figure and not +Paypal +shipping, etc.

thus saving the paypal fees..
reasonable people can usually come to a mutually satisifying agreement..
remember, all price negotiations should be via email or PM's..
we want to avoid a third party chiming in with a negative comment..
and thats about all i have to say on this..
