Hi,

Does anyone have XP US/UK recovery discs for a T61 6458?

All of the following are compatible: 6457, 6459, 6460, 6461, 6462, 6463, 6464, 6465, 6466, 6467, 6470, 6471, 6478.

Would appreciate it if someone could help me out with this. Either ship a copy of physical discs or make a image-file and upload it. i have a pretty fair 25Mbit connection. I will pay for it ofcourse. Please PM me.

I don't use PM because I don't log in unless I want to post a message. I just got one of these models and made a copy for my own use, I'd be happy to make you a copy and send it. Or if you can tell me how to make an image file (or, I assume, 7 image files, one for each CD), I'll upload them for you if it doesn't take too long. You can reply via e-mail.

I'm not fully online with the new machine, and that's the one I need to do this from due to issues with the CD drive on the old ThinkPad. I used the program that came with the new ThinkPad to create an image file, but instead of getting a .iso file I got a .gi file. Is this a common format that everyone can use? Or a proprietary and useless Sonic format?

I can't afford to spend a lot of time on this right now as I have to spend my time getting the new unit ready for my job.

im pretty sure GI is the sonic specific, in which case i can burn it, not sure about others?

Sonic can create ISO file images. You select the image format on the dialogue for entering the file name.

Another handy program for making ISO files is isorecorder . After installation all you have to do is open My Computer, right click the CD drive and select "Make image from disc". Then select a destination and name.

OK, I've made the image files in .iso format, now I just need to upload them. Anyone have a good file storage site to recommend that:

1) doesn't require registration for either upload or download?
2) allws file sizes of 1 gb?
3) allows simultaneous multiple file uploads?

The hardware I need to finish getting the new laptop online should arrive today, although I still have days (and days!) of installing/setting up ahead of me so don't expect this tomorrow.

I don't want to put this material on my own server for download because I have to pay for that bandwidth. So I still need a URL for a file storage site that allows upload of files up to 1gb in size. It should not require registration for either upload or download, and if it allows multiple simultaneous uploads and downloads, that would be a plus.

This page covers part 1 and 3. Unfortunately you have to reduce file-size, example via WinRar (www.rarlabs.com) or make imagefile as .daa (ex via PowerIso) of maximum 100MB.

Apparently this is not often done for free, and now I see why, it takes too long. If I could just zip up all the files and upload them as one file to a file storage service I would, but I can't. So - anyone who wants these can offer me $35 for my time to make a set of recovery CDs on physical media ($5 per CD) plus shipping.

Final suggestion: USB flash drives are relatively cheap, in the $25 range for a 4gb drive, these ISO files would fit on one 4gb drive and one CD. If you send me a drive and return postage for the drive and one CD; or two drives and return postage for both (the second one would have to be 1gb minimum), no charge.
